Thanks Tom. San Diego jam is what I have used on the ocean for years.  I know plenty of good knots I can use, I was just curious if it was possible to tie the leader with a Palomar after tying to the main line.  Watching two pros do it, I thought maybe I was missing something, but unless a person brings the whole rod through the loop, I don't think I was wrong in assuming it can't be done.

I don’t even improve the clinch 

Palomar knot main line to swivel, Palomar knot leader to swivel pulling the leader through the loop then Palomar knot to the hook. It’s possible but why?
