Shimano DC

Featured Replies

A beginner who loves light 4-15g lures fishing (more to BFS) and I've recently receive my SLX DC 71, get it out of the box and after few cast and disappoint with the distance. Try it again the next day with a few simple tweak with the lines, rod etc got improvement on the distance but still not satisfied so got it sold for 25 Tatula SV TW 100.

But still, I'm on the hunt for another DC that can suit my preferences. Man, I love the forgiveness the DC gave me on every cast, nearly stress free.

Need you guys help, the Aldebaran DC is my best choice IMO but it's a bit pricey. What else DC reels can i get with lower price that can cast 4-15 grams and get 20-35 meters effortlessly.

Thanks in advance! xx

I have several Scorpion DCs models.  I like them for heavier lures.  I mostly turn the brakes off and use my thumb so I'm probably not a good judge of the technoglogy.

There is the curado which is between the SLX and the Aldebaran and available in DC, but it is the 150 size.  Other than that its the aldebaran or met.

I have the curado DC, does great on the heavier end, cannot handle 5g and mediocre around 7g.

The forgiveness of the reel equals less distance, especially with light baits. Thinkin you will want a bfs set up. A Curado bfs will give you what you want but you will have to learn the brake and train your thumb. Also will need the correct rod to cast down to 4 grams.

Curado is out of the list then, not much difference from Scorpion I guess. Suits medium game best. Metanium/CQ/ else straight to Aldebaran.

I think you’re going to struggle with a true 1/8 oz without having a bfs reel. Just get the aldebaran bfs and be done with it.

I have some 150 DC Curados they work for 1/4 oz and heavier.

I have been trying some of my Curado 70s for light weight finesse with limited success.  I bought a Curado bfs and though 8# is the heaviest line recommended I have 10# fluorocarbon on it and it is handling the Ned rig just inne with long casts.

I love the SLX BFS reel but hate the limited line spool. I can near spool the line with an 1/8oz and 10# braid. Get it tuned right and they’ll toss light lures almost too far!

The right rod makes a big difference too.

But then again, BFS isn’t about bomb casting.
