Baby brush hog thoughts

I've been fishing the baby brush hog some, and having some success. Even having success with it at the city lake I fish which has a lot of pressure. I think not many people fish it.

So far, I've only fished 2 colors, green pumpkin and okeechobee craw. What is everyone's favorite colors?

I've been fishing it Texas rigged with 1/8oz or 1/4oz bullet sinker, hopped along the bottom. How does everyone else use it?

I carry 4 colors - June Bug, Green Pumpkin, Alabama Craw, and Watermelon Seed. Color used is based on conditions.

I don't do T-Rigs - I seem to be cursed as I've never had any luck with them. Free Rig with 1/8 or 1/4 oz and Shaky Head - same weights - are my main techniques with them.

Great bait. I use green pumpkin and PBJ. I always tip it with chartreuse with JJ'S or a Zoom marker.

Drag it ,flip it even cut it down for a jig trailer.

I'm a big fan of the baby brush hogs.

Favorite color is green pumpkin blue flash.PXL_20250704_100426632.jpg.27c91fdee8936bebc61005031d2c4a1e.jpg

I haven't used the baby brush hog in over 10 years. It was my go-to Texas Rig. I love using Watermelon Red/ and Watermelon Magic.

My color selection with soft plastics is minimal.  For worms I use Green Pumpkin and Junebug.  For creatures and craws I use the same two, plus Okeechobee craw, and Falcon Lake craw.  I also use black and blue 7 inch Senkos, because I can't find 7 inch Junebug Senkos.

Classic Texas rig bait. For a while it was my number one flippin/pitchin bait.

Blue fleck, watermellon red, and watermellon candy are my 3 best producers.  Along with Superhogs, Baby Brush Hogs were my best pitching baits.

The fish in my profile pic was caught on a green pumpkin baby brush hog; she was the first big bass I ever caught at 7lb 5oz, fished it weightless and she picked it up off the bottom. It used to be my go-to soft plastic, I ended up throwing the standard brush hog more after a while, then transitioning more toward senkos. That downsized profile is killer, though.

In the spring when they're on wood, I throw the RI Manbearpig a lot, which is basically a Brush Hog. Little different look.

Light weight, unpegged. Blue craw or magic craw, whatever they call the green pumpkin with a blue swirl.

Been using them for years on a Texas rig. I only carry 3 colors:

black/red glitter

junebug

watermelon/red glitter

The brush hog is a good bait, especially the baby brush hog.  They make a ton of good colors and sizes.  The full size brush hog hasn't done to well for me in comparison, but I didn't put a whole lot of time in with it.  I like the super hog more than the brush hogs.  They're the perfect size and profile.

I like SKs game hog over zooms brush hog too.  I like SKs plastic, scent and colors more than zooms.  The game hog also has a body that's about the same dia as the super hog.

Gene Larews hoo daddy was a good hawg style bait as well.  Its like a 4.5 brush hog with a ribbed body.  GL stopped making them 7 or 8 years ago, but Yum must have bought the molds from GL, because theyre not just making the hoo daddy.

Yum Hoodaddy Creature Bait  Yum Salt Craw

They're also making the hammer craw, biffle bug and OG salt craw.  The only 3 baits theyre missing are the tattle tails, inch worm and what is my favorite lizard.  The lizard has a hollow body that would help its buoyancy.  You could also fill it with a rattle and or pro cure/megastrike.

I fish the SK Game Hawgs and RI Manbear pig pretty much same thing as the Zoom slender creature baits.  I Texas rig them to drag and pitch to structure with usually a 3/16 - 3/8 weight.  It is also my favorite Carolina rig bait as well.  Carry mostly green pumpkin variations(basic green pumpkin, green pumpkin sapphire, blue craw(favorite)), black/blue, and junebug.
