How Long (time wise) Is Your Last Cast......????

My last cast was yesterday at dusk.

Low light is one determining factor. The other comes when the fish aren’t playing nice and I finally figure out they’re not going to play, no matter what I throw.

Common expression with bass anglers “last cast” meaning it’s time to head back. Then the bass turn on and last cast is forgotten, happens often and may be the reason we say it!

"Last cast" for me usually means two to five more.

Pretty much the same as the OP. I start paddling back to the launch site after “last cast” is called. A 10 or 15 minute trip may take an hour, the real last cast is normally a couple hundred feet from the launch, however long it takes me to get there.

At some point my brain says "Enough!" and I start heading back to shore, usually at full speed (which isn't saying much on an AP120 kayak), But I may slow it down a bit and take a cast or two on the way back to the ramp.

I will ususally look at my watch and set a time when it my last cast will. Could be 5 mins or 15 mins. The only exception is if I am having a great day catching fish which doesn't happen too often.

My tombstone will read, “Just one more cast!”

Local bass clubber Hallott named his boat “LAST CAST”.
