Spearhead?

Featured Replies

My daughter sent me a bait I've never heard of along with a pack of worms.  It's a Ryuki Spearhead 70S.  Feels heavy for a less than 3" with, I think, #10 hooks.  Anyone use these and how?

Send a pic if you can, sounds a little temu to me.

Haven't used the 70 but I have a couple 60s and 51s. Just think of it like a fancy JDM rapala countdown.

It's a duo realis bait, polar opposite of temu :)

Thanks guys. I figured i was wrong. Good looking bait.

Here's the description from the hookuptackle website...

The developmental concept for the “Spearhead Ryuki 70S and 80S” were to capture the middle to large size main-stream rivers targeting various species of trout by casting down-cross.

The semi-long lip to grip the water and flat-side body with low center of gravity fixed weight settings have equipped the lure with a high level of swimming performance in the strong flow of the main stream. Its action initiation is prompt and can handle consecutive twitching through the rod work.

Some lures loose the casting comfortability through the increased body size of the lure, but by controlling the height of the body, we have managed to realize the top of the range castability.

Ryuki 70S will show its true strength against the Seema in the main-stream, Red spotted masu trout and the very selective Cherry trout. It has awesome swim balance in order to tackle the intricate flow of the stream while tracing the bottom to middle range depth.

Length: 2.75 inch

Weight: 1/3 oz

Depth: 2-3 ft. (Sinking)

Its a Duo sinking minnow bait.  They have all kinds of sizes and styles for everything from micro streams to inshore fishing.  Duo makes some great products.  I think the hooks can go toe to toe with Gami or Owner as far as sharpness and quality go.  I wish Duo would import more of their baits to the US.  Their surf and inshore baits are awesome.

I have fished it and it's a good bait for both trout and bass but it does sink like a rock. I fish it in deeper water (8-15 feet) with a quick pause and pop retrieve. You can also fish it shallow but you need to reel really quick. Overall, I like the 50S better. Also, the hooks are kind of light. Make sure you set the hook lightly and let the fish hook itself. A rod with a soft middle and quick tip helps.
