Featured Replies

Searching for a new pair that lasts.

Short with 1/2 finger.

I have no luck with what I have bought.
I just got a pair of AFTCO short pumps for grinding on Marlin (which I do) but they are two much glove for Bass fishing.

What say you?

I just use heavy duty work gloves when the water has like poison ivy or harmful algae or tons of trash in it.  They aren’t perfect but they protect my hands from infection and irritation when it floods or during the peak of the summer when everything is blooming!

I say..

I’ve had Kast King Gill Raker gloves for about 5 yrs.

They stretch at the right places, breathe and comfortable enough to wear all day without moving and bunching up
Don’t know what the SPF number is but never had a problem

Buy welder's gloves in bulk and cut off the fingers. They're cheap and sturdy.

Two much glove for Fl. But thanks for the reply!

I use fishing gloves as a Christmas gift opportunity.  I never need or want anything as christmas gifts but I have nieces and nephews that 'need' to give uncle rick a gift.  Fishing gloves are inexpensive and sit right in that $25 sweet spot for an uncle gift.

I used a pair of Huk that I bought at Cabelas ($40) and after two years they are fine.  The rubbery grip has largely worn off in the baitcaster reel grip area, but the other hand is fine.  They are functional and are my backups still.  I was given a pair of Glacier Glove Islamorada gloves (msrp $30) last Christmas and they have a more suede grippy part.  I use these as my primaries and I'm sure I'll get another year out of them, maybe more.

@Pat Brown

To heavy for the Fl. Heat.

Thanks for the responce.

Fish Monkey makes some good ones. KastKing's aren't bad either.

I have a pair of Cuda gloves.  First ones I have ever used.  They have a Velcro sweat patch on the top.  I have used them hard for 3 years and washed them multiple times and although the rubber nub grips have worn off, they still are going strong.

I picked up some Shelta fishing gloves. They actually make a hat that is large enough for my giant dome (size 8).

Gloves looked pretty good, and since I was ordering...threw in a pair. They work well.

Just got a pair of Fish Monkeys.   They look okay.  I’ll wear them Saturday

having said that, the best ones are Simms Guide Gloves.   Saving a pair for my travel fishing trips.  I gave a spare pair to my Amazon fishing guide and he was parading them to his buds.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but gloves inhibit my ability to operate a rod and reel.  I lose my sense of touch and feel unless I am using bare hands.

Same goes for hunting.  I avoid gloves holding a firearm as long as I am able to, down to about 40 degrees.  Colder than that, I use shooting gloves with a specialized trigger finger.

I don't wear gloves but if I did I would want them extremely form fitting, thin, and light. If it's cold I'm looking for something as close to this as possible with some added warmth.

I don't want to spend a ton of money on the most sensitive rod and then throw on a pair of beefy gloves.

IDK, just me.

Yeah I like those.

They seem to check every box I would want.

The button on the wrist enables you to hold them together...I pair them up, and hang to help dry.

I've never had fishing gloves before, so cannot compare with others. I do very much like Shelta products.

I really only wear them when it's hot and sticky, and very little wind...and I notice the sun baking down on my hands.

Like @gim I'm not a huge fan of gloves...like to have a good feel. I'm no where near as tough as him when hunting...I always seem to have a pair of gloves on, and often have handwarmers tucked in there to help (I must be getting old!). Most times I do take gloves off when it's time to pull the trigger (waterfowl or big game). For pheasant / upland, I looked long and hard to find a good pair of lightly insulated Gore-Tex gloves with the dexterity needed to turn off safety, and pull the trigger. I have a few pair of Upland gloves from Cabela's (way back in the day...) I keep them in storage and ONLY use for upland...as they aren't made any more.

Good luck with your search!

Yeah I've been eyeing their hats as well. Pricey but look very nice. I always where a baseball hat so the added protection would be nice.

I'd only wear gloves for either the sun or the cold.

The ones they sell interest me a lot but they only sell two sizes. I have smallish hands so I bet the S/M would be too big.

I was a big baseball hat guy, but after getting three skin cancers dug off my dome, needed better protection. Would have loved other options, but nothing fit my dome.

Stumbled upon Shelta, I have three sun hats, two face gaiters, and two pair of gloves. Will probably get a few more sun hats to have in vehicles and camper.

The stiff brim is great when boating...doesn't flap up or down. And they float...I've lost my hat overboard when running up the lake...simply circled back around and picked up out of the water. Very nice!  They are pricey, but I'm expecting them to last a while.

Bonus, they clean up well. Directions suggest taking a dirty hat in the shower, and using shampoo to clean. I can attest they do clean up well!

I fish Florida and other southern waters when it’s hot year round, and Minnesota at times during the summer too. My hands take a beating - sunburn, and even a thumb got infected after lipping several fish.

After using 3 different brands, I think I found the best glove for me. Fish Monkey makes a specific glove call the “Free Style Custom Fit” glove. You can leave the fingers long or cut them down any way you’d like.

I cut all the fingers half way down - with the exception of my left thumb. I use that thumb to “lip” fish while I use my pliers if necessary to un-hook the fish.

Have had them 2 years now with heavy use. They are starting to wear down some so I bought another pair. I will save the first ones for long tournament weeks so I have 2 pairs to switch off when they get used/stinky.

As far as weight, they are hardy enough to put up with abuse but I’ve never felt too hot.  Five stars from me

Sun damaged hands are not a good look.  I think our hands are a great indicator of our age.  I don’t want old hands with paper thin skin.

im 100% gloves.   My finger tips look 80, but the rest of my hands scream 30-something. :)
