Dobyns Fury 795SB. Other uses beside glide baits and A-Rigs?

Featured Replies

I Have a Dobyns Fury 795SB ( 7'9 MF/F for 1-5oz lures)

I bought this rod pretty cheap ($80) to use with my alabama rigs and glidebaits.

What other lures would you use this rod for? I only fish A rigs in the late winter/early spring and really dont want to see this rod hanging on the wall for most of the year.

Any 6-8" treble/line though soft swimmer. Would probably be decent with 1.5oz plus deep diving cranks. I still haven't tried it, mostly because it would be my second deep crank set up and I'm not yet in a good spot to swap line or reel to something thinner.

I have 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 ounce Spinnerbaits you might do well with. Xtra Grande trap baits, Use it in the GofA..

Also works well with rats and other wakebaits.

I also use mine for striper fishing behind my house.

Good 6” magdraft rod. Anything with trebles from 1.5-3.5oz really

Mine is my smaller swimbait rod so I use it for smaller glides, topwater wakes, crankdowns, basically anything under 3oz that has big trebles on it. I use mine sometimes for the 130 or 190 whopper plopper. It's a bit overkill, but who cares when you can bomb them 70 yards.

I use mine for my main swimbait rod and have used it for all the swimbaits mentioned. It does also work for a big spinnerbait rod in a pinch, I've had to do it a couple times.
