Chronarch MG or Zillion?

Featured Replies

I only ask because there seems to be a lot of people that are on either side of the fence.  I just bought another pair of Costa sunglasses, but then my Citica gave out, and I need to replace it.  I have decided to take the glasses back and use that money for a new reel to go on my Loomis worm rod.

I like the fact that the Zillion comes in a 7.1:1 ratio while the MG doesn't, but I like the fact that the MG is much lighter than the Zillion.

So everyone sell me, which should I buy and why?

If it were me, I'd go with the Zillion.  I'm leery of magnesium framed reels.

The weight difference in the reels alone is about the weight of another Loomis.....

I like the MG.  Until I see or hear of a problem with the MG frame that's not related to saltwater usage, I won't worry, I'm currently using 4 MG's.

You spent the $$$ for a light and sensitive Loomis, I'd want to keep the reel light and maximize the light weight advantages.

i agree with flechero.  you spent all that $$$ on a light sensitive rod.  put a reel on it that will keep it light.

i love my 50 mg....but i would probably like it better if it were on a loomis   :)

I have used both of those reels quite a bit.  I sold the Zillion, and kept the MG.  Unless you just need the fast 7:1 gear ratio, I think the MG is just a nicer reel.

They are really not in the same class.

Compare the mg to daiwa pixie.  That's a tougher choice.

To answer your question, I am a "Daiwa" guy, but I would pick the mg50 over the zillion in a heartbeat.

Now the steez on the other hand................................................................. 8-)

I have both, and honestly prefer the Zillion.

No Chronarch for me, Zillions all the way, if I need it lighter, TD-Zs

Surprisingly, I would opt for the Shimano.  ::)

Surprisingly, I would opt for the Shimano. :;)

I wouldn't have expected anything else RW.   :) :)

I think that I am going to opt for the MG over the style and flair of the Zillion.  Sure it looks cooler, but I have always had trouble with magnetic braking systems on reels, I can never get them set right.

Being a memeber of both possies I 'd say ....... this is a tough one  :-/ ....... Chronarch Mg  :), if I want a lightning fast reel I just fish with my Stradic, it 's a lot faster than the Zillion.

Well thanks for all the input folks, I am happy to say that I am the proud owner of a new..........Chronarch 50 MG.  I am dying to get it mounted on my Loomis rod and hit the water, unfortunately, there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms today and 90% tomorrow, :'( so if it is even remotely not lightning on Sunday, I will be out breaking in the new combo.

The Chronarch is a great little reel.  I use it for light topwater lures myself, with a 6 ft. G Loomis GLX rod.  The whole outfit weighs nothing...

You made a great choice with the Chronarch 50mgs.  I have two of them and I love em both!  I have one of them mounted on a G-Loomis IMX and it is sweet.  You can fish it all day and not get tired.  Reel Mechanic takes care of them for me.
