Recommended sling packs for bank fishing?

Featured Replies

Looking to purchase a sling pack for bank fishing trips. I’ve been using a backpack for a while but it’s a little bit of a pain to sling it around to my chest any time I need to change lures.

I’ve done some looking and found a few options but wanted to see if I can source other feedback or maybe additional options here.

My top choice would be the LSD designs bags from Japan but the only domestic retailer for them I can find is the hook up tackle and they are all sold out.

Tackle warehouse has a fairly cheap option that looks decent but on the bulky side of things.

Then a buddy recommended a fishpond summit sling 2.0 as a more compact option but it’s not necessarily built with bass fishing in mind and is on the more expensive side.

Anything else out there to consider or feedback on the options mentioned above?

I've put a lot of time into this and this mimics a Japanese minimalist style bank fishing set up.

First my sling is the Simms Tributary. Its excellent, durable, light and quality, if a bit expensive.

You can read about it in detail here:

I was just looking at that Simms tributary sling bag. It’s on sale at scheels for $59.99.

What size Plano box can you fit into the main compartment? Would it fit a 3600 size box or does it need to be smaller? I’m not sure what the OSP box you have in there is comparable to size wise.

I got the same pack as you on sale after reading your post. It’s the perfect bank bag.

Well thanks for trusting my opinion!

It's working out well for you?

I don't really think the Simms works best with hard boxes.

If you prefer hard boxes, my "old" set up would work better.

You can find it here.

I have a small bass pro box that fits in it well. With a gamakatsu small box for terminal tackle

Take a look at this one. Easily rotates from behind to forward to access the boxes, etc, then back. No problem casting with it rotated forward on your side though. The model in the link replaced to the one shown in the pics and in an improvement AFAIK.

Do you mind sharing the dimensions of the box so I can get a sense of what will fit in the pack?

Absolutely. When I get home from work this evening I’ll get some stuff measured up for ya

I only bank fish, and I travel very light. Last year I purchased a Zimmerbuilt Arrowood Chest Pack. Super high quality, and made in Ohio. I've been very happy with it. I even had Chris (the owner) make me a shoulder strap so I could use it as a messenger bag when we travel by air and I want to bring a small amount of fishing tackle with me, as well as my passport and Kindle.

I use the BPS Stalker sling pack and have been very happy with it. I see the price has gone up though. Don't quote me, but the two I have I think I paid $19.95 for them not but a couple years back.

I also see they have a new one called the Prodigy. I have not seen in person, but doesn't look too bad online.

Here’s the box I use and I have no issue with a smalll terminal tackle box and a gallon ziplock with plastics in it.

I have the TW sling pack, holds two 3600 boxes. I like that you can spin to the front and have access to gear and it not spilling out. Sippers are on the side that is facing up. Everything is handy and very little of having to dig for things.

Overall I’m happy with it and it works for me.

Is it not too bulky? Does it get in the way at all while fishing? How comfortable is it? I like having the space if needed just concerned about the larger size of the tw sling.

Most slings that easily rotate to your back aren't in the way, while fishing, including the TW sling. Watch the Vid on it:

Some, like the one I posted above can remain by your side while casting if you cast right-handed because in that position it's under the left arm. Don't even know it's there. The TW pack can be configured the same way.

The question for me with any sling is how heavy it might get fully loaded. My Spiderwire sling gave me a headache, literally. Pressure on one side of my neck from the strap did it. Ultimately, that was my fault. It holds a lot of stuff and I couldn't resist filling that void.

I’m currently using a Tackle Warehouse sling bag.

Instead of carrying two 3600s, I use five Flambeau Outdoors Zerust MAX 3003ZM Tuff Tainers (9.125"). That way, I can bring a wider variety of items. I get them at Walmart—they’re the cheapest I’ve found (about $5.88 at Walmart vs. $6.58 at Tackle Warehouse).

The front pocket holds a Plano 3400 Adjustable Double-Sided Stowaway for my hooks and an 8 lb spare line

Are you happy with it? I put one in the cart, was hoping TW would have some sort of Easter sale this weekend so I could get it at a discount, but haven’t seen anything yet.

I have been using one for about a year now and I have been enjoying it. I have overloaded it with swimbait gear, and run it with 4 baits and a water bottle, equally comfortable. It is a little warm in the dead of summer, but it doesn't take up a lot of surface area on the body, so moving it around for air flow is fairly easy. Strap is more comfortable than expected. The front work tray/pocket is quite handy, especially when wading rivers. the water bottle holder works great with a variety of shapes/sizes, but I don't believe I would trust it with a fishing rod. all in all, I would buy it again, but would prefer a different colour for visibility while trekking through the brush.

Thanks man I like to swimbait and that’s typically what I do when bank beating but I like to have some conventional for backup. Or if it’s tough conditions ie dead of summer I’ll just throw conventional. Sounds like this would be a good fit for me. Price is right so think I’ll give it a shot.

@Jerkbait22 - I’d assume their next sale will be around tax season (April 15) or Memorial Day, based on my purchase history. As for the sling, I do like it—it’s comfortable and easy to use. I don’t wear it all the time, though. I usually set it down while fishing, and if I need to switch something out, I’ll just take a knee and swap out my gear. It serves its purpose well for me. I keep two setups—hard baits and soft plastics. One is for creature baits for Texas rigs, and the other is for things like crankbaits, Senkos, and chatterbaits.
