Fan of 832. Less fan of J-Braid.

What don’t you like line j braid grand ?

I have grand on my spinning at 10#. Cast really nice.

I wanted to try samurai as well but I’m sure it’s slightly better.

Only tried the standard j-braid in 8, 10 and 20#. Garbage. Extreme digging. Frays on random locations (especially on the 8 and 10lb), and you better cut the line, or that frayed portion will make you lose a lot of fish and lures.

To me, the 832 is the gold standard for well over a decade. Desperate to find a braid that is thinner, slicker, doesn't fray easily, and lasts at least as long as the 832.

I don’t have words for how much I hate Jbraid. Stuff gets abrasion/frays if it rubs against a marshmallow.

832 is a much better all around performer.

Then stop fishing around marshmallows. Though some people think they do attract fish, so maybe that's bad advice.

I used j braid all last season and have it on my spinning reels as we speak. No issues for me, but I also make lots of stuff work instead of being overdramatic so I can brand drop and be one of the cool kids. I've used 832 as well and found it just fine, like j braid. Vanish flouro has a horrible rep, but I've caught hundreds of steelhead on it 🤷🏽‍♂️

You raise a valid point - conditions matter. Everything here involves Salt Cedars, rocks and old barbed wire fences underwater - abrasion resistance is key, and none of the Jbraids seem to work in that environment. Believe me, I have spent thousands of dollars to find the best performance, and it definitely isn’t one of the expensive/cool braids.

If you can find it, 832 20 lb in Camo is my go-to. It has the diameter of 6 lb. Several tests I have seen shows it breaks closer to 30 lbs. It is so thin, I use it without a leader for bottom contact baits. My success actually went up since I started using it that way.

I used to think the same thing until I tried a spool of Suffix 131. It’s rounder, casts further. Digs in less, doesn’t get wind knots yet for me and is very durable. Only downside is it is more expensive.

I believe you, and would have already tried it, but its too d**n expensive.

Bought 2 different lines from Duel a couple of days ago, hoping they perform well.

I’m using j-braid right now for ocean stuff. Dragging it thru reefs. Zero issues.

But I’m no braid aficionado, they all seem fine to me.

I've used Sufix 832 and PP for years. No issue with either. I use 832 for my spinning reels and bass BC's and PP for my musky BC's.

I have experimented with quite a few kinds of braids.

Seaguar - Smack down, Tact X camo braid, PEX8

Power Pro and Power Pro Slick V2.

I like the Power Pro Slick V2 for longevity and casting distance.

Tact X kind of difficult casting sometimes.

PEX8 probably the best casting but not impressed with longevity.

Usually buy stuff when it goes on sale for a pretty good discount.

I am a fan of Sufix 832 as well . Previously I used Power Pro (which still has its place) but I found 832 to be more robust and the Gortex layer / strand in 832 has a lot to do with how 832 holds up under varying , challenging conditions. I might try J8 Grand 30 lb. - 40 lb. + leader on a bait caster for top water , see how it performs and go from there. But for fishing around weeds , lay downs and rocks I know what I’m getting when using 832.
