Found some "new" old worms today.

Featured Replies

Wife wanted to stop at a garage sale today. Found these for $3.00 a bag. Sealed 11 inch mister twisters with the old cardboard hang tags and I'm thinking the culprits are from around the same time frame. I'm guessing mid 80's to early 90's. What a cool find!

Thinking about taking an old school trip in the near future.

Love me some culprit ribbon tails. There's one hanging out the mouth of the fish in my pfp.

That’s a score right there!!

Sweet ~

And I truly enjoy doing the 'vintage gear' trips.

If nothing else, it slows me way down.

Congrats and good luck.

When I was growing up in the 70s/80s, we had a tackle shop in central MS that had a worm bar and you could get both the culprit and mister twister for like $2/lb…wish it was still around, but in N Alabama instead of MS…

I almost forgot to update the thread.

I was able to get out for a retro day on Father's Day. Kind of a rough day being Father's Day and free fishing weekend in Ohio. People everywhere at the local park I was able to get out to. I was able to catch this monster on the retro setup though. 😆

Small but healthy looking.

That set-up works way better than it has any right to. 6'0" medium Fenwick Venture rod from around 2000, the first decent casting rod I ever bought. It was my first time using the 40ish year old Shimano Bantam from Goodwill on the water and it still works very good for what it is. 40ish year old Culprit fire and ice original worm, 12 pound Big Game, 3/16 lead bullet weight and 3/0 worm hook. Ooh, vintage!

Fishing with the old Shimano and Big Game actually made me think of Catt (RIP) quite a few times during the trip. 😊

Also caught a glimpse of a bald eagle, a gold colored carp, a deer or three, a muskrat, a heron, and a bunch of ducks and geese. All in all, a fun little fishing/nature watching trip that I'll definitely do again.

Hard to see but the golden carp is there.

My youngest REALLY has the fishing bug and also has the patience and concentration to be an effective soft plastic fishermen. I assembled him a collection of my soft plastics that has essentially every class of soft plastic bait you can fish T-rigged or with a screw-lock hook.

Including some at least 15 year old Berkley Power Bait worms that have a very large profile. He tried one in metal flake darker blue body with a fire ribbon tail on a local lake and caught 9 bass in four hours on a at least 15 year old soft plastic worm.

I've been using some 10 inch Riverside ribbontail worms that are around 30 years old. Its my new favorite worm but when they are gone , they are gone. The worm bodies are not round , they are triangular. I use a small 3.0 hook and run it through the edge , not the middle. Hook up ratio has been phenomenal.
