good stand up jig head recommendation

Featured Replies

Looking for a good no heavier than 3/8oz stand up bass jig to buy. Not a bare jig head talking complete with skirt and weed guard.

I saw the discussion in the other thread and almost commented there. To me, stand up head = Ned head. There are skirted options, but bare hook tends to be the norm. For skirted neds, check out the Buckeye Spot Remover and the skirted Z-man Shrooms. The skirting on the Buckeye's is very cheap, but it'll accept replacement skirts. Matzuo makes a Marabou skirted ned that I was really excited for. Unfortunately, the fish don't seem to be as excited as I was.

Truth be told, skirted ned heads have never worked as well as I thought they would. My theory is the skirt throws off the silhouette enough to make the fish reject it. This summer I'm going to try them trimmed down like a finesse jig.

Look at Siebert Outdoors Brush jig. Regardless, you’ll want a buoyant trailer.

If you want skirted, look at Phenix Baits standup casting jigs.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for https://www.megastrike.com/evolution-jigs

To begin with I ordered a few Siebert Outdoors Megalodon brush jigs.

Those look pretty good for what you’re after.

One thing to remember with that style of head is to inspect your knot really closely after any snags and/or fish. While the lead around the eye protects it, it also makes dings/damage a little harder to see at a glance.

Thank you didn't know that was a factor.

They’re quite a bit less prone to knot damage than most styles, but they definitely hide it……I figured that out after watching a couple go flying across the cove while my line gently drifted down.

They won't stand up like you think. Try a football jig.

I threw a lure into another dimension last week. There was no splash down, it wasn't caught on a bush behind me, it was just gone and my spool was F'd. Worst backlash in a long time.

I feel your pain!! I’ve got one standing in the corner here that has reached the point of “just cut it all off and start fresh” after a knot failure on 30 lb braid.
