Although I'm new to this forum I haven't heard anyone say they use Ugly Sticks. I love mine. They have landed many a fish including my personal best smallie today weighing in at 3.5 lbs.

Yeah.  I've got two of them collecting dust in the garage.  I might pull them out if I decide to go catfishing or something.

Ugly stiks are great for the money.  I haven't tried any of the big stuff, but I started out bass fishin on one of the 5'6 spinners.  Those things'll probably last you a lifetime.  I wouldn't recommend throwing anything even remotely big with those smaller models, though.  The taper is slooow, and the action is pretty danged light.

Ask somebody else about the bigger ugly stiks for lure fishin.  I just know those really cheap sets will actually do some good for your finesse game.

I prefer my rod blank to have a spine.

I have a couple,one of them is a coustom tied one I had done about 25years ago, 5foot ul with a Penn spinning reel. I had two the same one fell out of a boat I still have and use the other

I have about 6 pistol grips i love um for med/small  spinnerbaits and i also have the Coastals i use for catfish and other saltwaterfish they are heavy but you never have to worry about your rod BLOWING UP if u hook up to anything,i have garcia 4600c3,s with the pistol grips one outfit is like 12 yrs old caught more bass with that then all my others combined i wish they came with Fuji reelseats though  the pistol grips any how my coastals have FUji .I dont use um for plastics though

The ugly stick is viewed a s great rod for the $$ for someone just getting into the sport.  

For the angler looking to get to the next level, rods with sensitivity and backbone are usually a must.  Great rods for entry level or for someone that consistently shuts rods in doors, other than that,. waaaaaaaay too soft to use for much of anything.

Well, I don't use Ugly Sticks, but I have a couple of them I keep around for situations like last Saturday.  I took my step-grandchildren crappie fishing.  Their two, biological grandfathers have both passed away so I'm the only grandfather they have.  They had only caught one fish between them in their life.  I had scoped out a spot the day before where the crappie were lurking near a bank.  They had a ball.  Both were catching crappie right and left.  These two kids haven't stopped asking me when we're going to go again.  The Ugly Sticks did their job for that day.

I use to have one, but those things have no backbone and you end up loosing a lot of fish trying to set the hook.  

i saw one at walmart...it wasnt the typical black rod with the white tip...it was an ugly stick but it seemed alot stiffer to me than the "original"  but i didnt check it out too well..i dont remember the model...it was a black rod with blue "trim" but it didnt have the white tip...i think it was 20-25 bucks

I have one that I use for crankbaits. That's about it. I used to use it for soft plastics, but when I got my BPS Extremes it went in the garage.

yeah that does sound like it, i was actually there a little while ago (needed hooks) but didnt think to look at them...i was checking out the berkley lightning rods and an abu garcia rod they had there....think i will stick to the cherrywood, i really like that rod

That's all my grandpa uses and he's been bass fishing his whole life. Works fine for him.

I've got a 12' surf, a 6' spin and casting, and an 5 1/2' Ugly Stik Lite which in my opinion is worlds better than a regular Uglu Stik in terms of stiffness and feedback. I also have a Shakespeare Agility UL combo which is the funnest fishing rod I've ever bought.

Would I buy another one? Probably, but only the Lite version.

Compared to the rods that I was exposed to as a child, the Ugly Stick is an esoteric work-of-art!

My first rod was a 'metal' bay rod with an ugly black conventional reel that I wasn't able to cast (some things never change).

The ugly stick is a tremendous value, but of course, compared to graphite they're heavy and lack sensitivity.

All the same, fiberglass is stronger and cheaper than graphite, which cannot be summarily dismissed.

i have two, called lite pro, seem to be all right , one 6' spinning out fit/mitchell 300xe/20 braid, 1 7' baitcaster with a garcia 5000/30 braid. don't seem to jerk the bait out of the mouth,(braid is sensitive) because they are flexible.. and i've caught fish with both..... ;D i like 'em,and i can afford more expensive and i have some nice browing rods as well as BPS......
