Senko Rod

Featured Replies

I have found myself using Senkos a lot more lately and I think it is time a get a rod riiged just for senkos. What length, action and brand of rod do you guys use for senkos? thanks in advance for any help.

I am bias to Kistler Rods but, I really do believe they make the best senko rod under $200. The Mg 7' MH Senko Special has the perfect action to cast and skip the lightest senkos a mile with plenty of backbone to bury the hook on a hawg! With the fast tip you can feel a weightless senko as if you had added a sinker. If you prefer a different length or action Kistler has several rods that are designed for and work very well for fishing Senkos. Hope this helps you.

I use several rods for my Senko baits but one of the best is my 7', Kistler, LTA Helium in their Medium action.  They will throw a weightless one a country mile! 8-)

For soft plastics I recommend Medium or Medium Heavy Power/ Fast or Extra Fast Action. Length is really a matter of personal preference. There are plenty of choices depending on the pricing point you are interested in. I fish a St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Stella 2500FB and Yo-Ziri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (11.9 lb test). There is a baitcasting twin, EC70MF if you are interested.

Otherwise, I think the G. Loomis SJR843S would be an outstanding choice for a spinning rod. For baitcasting you might consider St. Croix Avid AC66MXF as another option.

This is what I would call the greatest senko rod ever manufactured.

I only throw senkos on this rod, but it could obviously be used for other plastics.  IMHO if you want the best senko rod, get the GLX version of this rod.

I had'nt fished senkos ever until I found the forum. Being that I spend ocassionally and usually only buy stuff on sale, I throw senko's with a 7' M action fast tip croix premier and have a browning midas baitcast. It's worked well for me.

Thanks a lot guys, I have been looking at the g-loomis' a lot more lately. And, my winter shopping spree at bass pro or cabela's is coming up soon. The summer job this year really helped out a lot with the fishing funds this year.

I have this matched with a chronarch 50mg... it's a dream.  I'm spoiled to death and the wife hates the baitmonkey, but she still loves me so I win either way!

I tend to stay on the low budget end of the spectrum.I use either a 6'6" MH Quantum Torsion ($20 at Walmart) or a Shakespeare MH 6"6" Excursion ( $15.00 at Walmart) Both work fine for me. Ive never used anything more expensive,or any other brand, so as far as im concerned, Both of these rods help me catch fish just fine, so why shell out the extra $$$. To each his own, this is just my experience with things.

Tell me about it. The baitmonkey is hitting me hard! The wife keeps asking me...."Now this is it right?...No more?" I keep saying yes no more. But than I keep asking her if its okay to order this type because I need it for this situation. She says its better than me going out to the bar. I agree. Fishing is a great way to relax and unwind.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission!

My wife says the same thing, she knows I'm out on the lake, not out running around.

Like LC Man said, if you are looking for the best dedicated Senko rod, the BCR Senko rods series are up there. I have the GLX 864, highly recommend.
