JDM Monkey is Hard to Resist

Featured Replies

Came home a little early today and found two small packages with funny writing on them and then I knew it, the Japanese monkey had stopped. All is well now with the monkey.....until next time. :-/ The JDM monkey sees a new spinning reel in the future. :-[

No s*t ?

Nice. I'm still keeping the JDM monkey at bay, but, he's trying to use the Pixy reel to pull me in.

Well Done!

Beautiful reels. You gonna love them! Good job!

Ronnie

sweet reels ..... wow i want a few jdm reels .... the wife would kill me lol ....

Apparently!  I am cool right now, other than wanting two regular scorpions with carbon 90mm bassart handles (for cranking reels).  You can do both of those for close to the price of that steez  :o.

I've been looking at those Alphas too.  Can you tell me if there's any notable differences between them and a Sol?  Where are you getting your JDM reels?  big

Did the Bait Monkey run out of Shimanos?    ::o

RW, The bait monkey is still strong in the Shimano line-up for spinning reels. Just now starting to experiment what Daiwa has to offer in their high end spinning line.

Looking real hard at this right now: TD Aoi 2506R I love this reel!!!   8-)

They weight less ( 1.2-1.4 oz ) and come with cold forged handle, the Type F comes with 2 extra bearings u der the knobs.

Bighead, The only real difference between the Sol and the stock Alphas is the weight. The Alphas is 1 oz. lighter than the Sol and also has corrosion resistant ball bearings which allows it to be used in saltwater. The Alphas-F is 1.2 oz. lighter than the Sol and also offers more bearing support on the knobs but can only be used in freshwater. IMHO, the stock Alphas (purple-blue) has a more durable finish and is a heck of alot sexier than the Alphas-F. Besides, you can always upgrade to a 4 bearing knob in the future. That's part of the fun of it.

The one in the picture on the first page is the Alphas-ito which is super-tuned by Ito Engineering, the founder of Megabass. This reel is in another class beyond the Sol IMHO. It weighs 5.9 oz. and will spool the reel on a cast with a 3/8 oz. bait. These things are wicked. They are half aluminum, half lexan, and all muscle. I now have two of these and they are still my favorite reel to use while pitching and flipping. They are absolutely effortless. I HIGHLY recommend them. :o

Sorry Raul, you beat me to it. :o

Be careful with the finish of the Alphas Itö, that polished aluminum finish is touchy, it gets stained. If you want to keep it like new always you need to buff it up with a flanel after you fish with it.

Thanks for the feedback.  I love the finish on the stock alphas and the weight difference is considerable.  For a few bucks more than the Sol it seems like a good buy!  Are you getting these on Ebay or any place in particular?

Most of the reels I buy are from Japanese Tackle shops.   A good bit of them speak English very well.  The Alphas Ito and the Steez came from eBay and I got smoking deals on both.  Sometimes you got to watch for auctions ending at 4-5 in the morning.  These are the one's that are easy pickings.  I use a bid sniper tool and it bids in the last 2 sec of the auction, giving no time for someone to react.  This makes some people mad bidding on the auctions but the way I see it, if they wanted it that bad they should have a higher bid price placed on the item.  I have gotten quite a few hate mails from other bidders.  I think it's funny.   ;D

The only way you can beat somebody like you is bidding the exact amount the reel is worth.

I usually go after the buy it now ones...alot of them do offer good deals.

Same thing here Grimlin. I don't have the patients to compete with people like Jim.  ;D
