I hear all these great things about e21's carrot stix.  I was wondering for those who have both the Carrot Stix and a G Loomis GLX, which one do you think would be better for T-rigs and other soft plastic applications.  I was convinced I was going to buy the G Loomis GLX BCR854 for this application, but the Carrot Stix C731MHC has peeked my interest.  The only thing I don't think I will like is the split grip (I had one split grip rod, which I ended up selling, because the split grip drove me nuts).  Any opinion is appreciated.  Thanks.

If you couldn't stand the split grip handle and ended up selling the last rod you had that came with one, then go with the Loomis. It takes a little getting used to but I have learned to love it.

Don't have the Loomis, but have been fishing the e21 for a few months and my one dislike about the rod is the grip. I like split grips, but the top grip on the e21 is very short. Half my hand is holding rod blank (large hands don't help).

Also from the reel seat back is a little short on the 7'3" for my liking.

Good point, a Carrot Stix medium action is stiffer than the medium action of a Croix or Loomis imo. Same goes for the mh action.

Get the 854.  I bought my first jig-n-worm series this past year, and it blew me away.  It is so sensitive, and so responsive , exactly what you need when fishing plastics.  It may not have the aesthetic appeal of a Carrot stick, but who cares?  Fishing plastics is about the feel, not the bling.

I have the bcr 854 this blanks is beyond sensitive and is a powerhouse i have it paired with my shimano 50mg nice and  lightweight. By best rod iv ever owned so far

Stiffer than a fast or X-fast action Loomis or Croix?.   I can't tell you which one to buy...I do own several BCR's and love them, but I haven't fished the carrot stick.

For those that already have a collection of gear, the "new" is fun to try. However, buying untested, unproven equipment that has no track record and little information regarding actual components and performance parameters is a gamble.

For those buying a "main" fishing rod, the reputation of G.Loomis and St. Croix guarantees a quality rod for a specified function at various pricing points. In addition to these brands, I have a Lamiglas and Fenwick Techna AV for a couple of specific applications. I'm happy with the rods I own, but I still have a VERY strong preference for G. Loomis.

Finally, at the pricing point for the Carrot Stix, the St. Croix Avid series that is being liquidated is a great value $140- $170 rods for around $100. I have three and these are excellent rods with high quality components and a limited lifetime warranty. I consider these to be the "best value" in today's market.

I'm a diehard loomis guy.  I've never even seen a carrot stick.

All I will say is watch out for the hype and marketing.  I'm sure thats why you asked here.

Well said RW.  ALthough I dont own any St Croix rods, many members here rave about them.  I am sure they;re great.

St croix does make some great rods,  BUT... their crankbait rods do NOT come anywhere close to being as good as the carrot stix
