I was at a tackle shop today and was looking at the lucky craft suspending pointer 100 baits. On a sign above the baits said not so use a sinking line or florocarbon line. My question is what line do you use for suspending baits and floating baits and topwater baits?

What I 've been using for over 2 decades for practically anything: Trilene Big Game nylon monofilament.

Tried many other lines and still always return to the old reliable.

kvd won a bassmaster classic using flouro on a jerkbait.it's not like the line is as heavy as a sinker.

I only use Flouro for jerkbaits (and crankbaits). I don't know why there would be a sign telling you not to. IMHO, flouro is best suited for jerkbaits.  If you don't mind, ask them why they have that sign there.  I would be curious to hear the answer.

I did ask them and there answer was that floro line would sink and the jerkbait would not suspend, but would be drawn down with the line.

I've noticed that when I need to use a suspending jerkbait (i.e. colder water conditions) they tend to float up more than sink.  Cold water is denser than warmer water so objects are more bouyant in the colder the water.

So I think the sinking property of floro is an advantage for suspending baits in colder water.

Then that would mean if you used mono with a jerkbait, the line would float and the jerkbait would not suspend, but would be drawn up with the line.  

Seriously, flouro doesn't sink like lead.  If you paused the jerkbait for 5 seconds, I still don't think the flouro would sink fast enough to draw it down.  I guess everyone has their opinion.

If fluoro would make it sink, and mono would make it float, split the difference and use copolymer?

I like 15 pound power pro with a 12 pound fluoro leader for 4 - 6" long jerkbaits. If I'm using smaller ones, I usually use 6 - 8 pound Stren Original.

I usually take along 6 or 7 rigged outfits (for the wife & myself), still I'm always stumped as to which lure to cut-off during a lure change.

That said, I'll tie any lure to any available outfit, regardless of the line on the spool (almost always braid).

Of course, tournament marketers would like to turn us all into tackle junkies, which in fact they have.

But in reality, any lure can be fished on any line, to me at least that's just part of the art of angling.

I use braid for everything...

This is what I will do, unless the water is stained to the point that I can go straight braid (sufix).  

If the water has any kind of color to it, I go with PowerPro (no leader). If it is clear then I go with PowerPro and a monofilament leader.

The best year I ever had with jerkbaits was 2005, that was also the year I fished them on flurocarbon, Vanish to be exact. I hated that line with a passion, and went back to using copoly. for jerkbaits in 2006-2007. I noticed via my logs jerkbait catch rates dropped..........quite a bit. So this year I am back to flurocarbon, Trilene 100%, will it make a difference? Maybe? At least I hope so.
