Best Baitcast for Under $100

Featured Replies

I'm in highschool and I've been saving up for a baitcast reel. I don't want to spend over $100 dollars so my question is whats the best and why?

I would suggest the Abu Garcia Silver Max. I do own this reel and think its a nice reel for the money ($60). Although the only downside is that it does not have an aluminum frame but I still like it alot. I can cast a mile with it and it is very smooth.

Also, I might suggest the Revo S.  I just ordered this reel so I have no experience with it.  I have heard nothing but great things about this reel though!  Tackle Warehouse has it for $100 plus free shipping.

I have both the the quantum accurist http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=N52P4XMTL1QBVLAQBBJSCNNMCAEFIIWE?id=0051871119562a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=0280202&cm_ite=0051871119562a&_requestid=108168

and the daiwa procaster. both are pretty nice for the price but i would really recommend the accurist, especially since it's on sale. also check out the daiwa megaforce. I feel that it's a little bulky for me but is still really smooth

Sorry just an update, I want it to be low profile and I plan and using it for flipping.

I'll second the Procaster recommendation, but not the current Procaster. Look for one of the discontinued aluminum-framed models, like the Procaster 100H, Procaster Rojo w/Flipping Lever, Capricorn, or Capricorn XTC. They're all available new on Ebay for less than $100. I have one of each, and they're all solid, smooth, reliable reels, with good drags and excellent brakes. You really have to try to get these things to backlash.

I also own a Daiwa Megaforce and it's an OK reel, I suppose, but nothing I'd recommend as a primary reel. I used mine for a little while on my jigging rod, but took it off and replaced it with a Procaster Rojo.

Cabela's Prodigy is a darn fine reel to consider for $99.  It's actually a tuned Daiwa TD-A 150H.  It'll be a smokin' bargain on sale this fall.

Revo S for the awesome drag.

Our cabela's has this thing called the bargain Cave where they put all of their returned merchandise (marked down considerably).  I could probably pick up a prodigy for $40 if I am lucky.

if u shop around u can get a shimino citca for just about 100bucks    check out ebay too   u can get new 200 dollar reels for like 80

Shimano Citica $120 with $30 Manufacture Rebate. Cant beat the real for 120 let alone 80.

I've got both a new Prodigy and a Citica. I paid $109 for the Citica (bought it before the rebate), and around $69 for the Prodigy. I prefer the Prodigy over the Citica. It casts farther, reels smoother, and fits better in my hand. The Citica is a fine reel, but I would be happy to trade it for another Prodigy.

Um that would be 90 dollars not 80. :)

I would also look at the Revo S or the Quantum Code. I have both and like them both. The Revo I used most of last year and it's been a great reel. I just picked up the Code and used it once and liked it but it's not 'proven' yet.

I agree 100 percent on the Silver Max or the Revo S . You will never go wrong buying any Abu Garcia products.

There is also a $10.00 rebate and a long sleeved Abu Garcia T-shirt with the recept for your purchase of  Abu Garcia reels. Mike
