Slug Gos

Featured Replies

Has anyone given these lures a shot. I own a couple packs and have used them a couple times but never really gave them a real chance. I see Charlie Moore fishing them all the time on his shows, and they do have good action. I am thinking about using more soft plastics next year, and I have always loved jerkbaits, so why not use soft plastic jerkbaits right?!? I just wanted to see if any guys have had decent success on them.

Sluggo's are KILLA baits.

You fish them like a fluke.  or actually it's more correct to say that you fish the fluke like a sluggo since it came first.

Here's my sluggo trick.  Pull the nose of the bait over the hook eye.  the little up turn makes the lure dart in erratic, unpredictable ways.

KILLA BAIT.........

Used some this past summer, with success.  First time, first cast, = bass.  I was impressed.

Got a nice northern on one as well.

I love Sluggos and Sluggo SS's.  For some reason their popularity died down lately.  I still keep them well stocked in my tackle box and go to them frequently.  I love tossing a sluggo into thick wood.  To me, the coolest thing about sluggo is they are thick so you can customize them rather easily by cutting chunks out with an x-acto knife or razor blade.  I like to cut a V notch out on each side about 2/3s of the way down the bait.  It makes it more floppy.  I have also sliced the tail in half, and cut chunks out of other places to get it more erratic.

Lunker City has some killer baits, check out their homepage:

Helgies, Sluggos, and Salad Spoons are some of my favorite all time soft plastics.  The Ozmo looks very cool as well, I have some, but have not tried them out...

I fish the original Slug-Go, weightless and weedless. I try to work it like a feeding minnow with short twiches and slight forward movement. When you get a strike, allow the rod to load-up before setting the hook.

i always figured the Senko was modeled after the sluggo.  Like an updated version.  They are just Soft jerkbaits.  Though i think the Senko works better wacky rigged

Well Gary Yamamoto observed that bait and wanted to improve from that.  Well he didn't improve, just created something different.

I always thought Slug-gos were the best in plastic until the senko came along.  It didn't get replace it just has somebody else standing next it it.

Use sluggos when you think that Senko/Flash baits fall too fast for colder water temps. Same great random darting action, but only falling "lighter". Plus they look more like a minnow, and come in great colors, and easy on the $$.

They still work they just aren't as popular as they use to be.

Great spring time baits.  I've got a bunch of them.

What color/size slug-gos you find most productive?

Pearl White , I've always preferred 5 or 6"

Shhhh...they don't work  ;).  Just keep twitching your zoom flukes.  Seriously though...the watermelon/shad Slug-go is dynamite.  My favorite and only color I stock.

4 1/2" Alwfe or Tenn. shad are what I usually use but some days the hot pink just outfishes all others.
