so i bought one new a few months ago. 6', mh spinning. didnt have any problems with it, then went out today fishing, flicked the bait pretty hard and SNAP! the tip is gone. i have the old lighning rods, and they are still truckin. the new ones are just to brittle. anyone have same problems with it as i have? or am i stuck with some seriously bad luck?  ;D

Don't know if you got a bad one or if they're bad in general. But by all means contact the company for a replacement. No sense in you eating the cost for their quality problem.

My brothers had one for a few months, but nothings happened yet. I'll have to see what happens.

well they really are good rods, ver light and pretty sensitive, but i guess where they reduced the wieght they sacrificed the durability at the same time. i guess im going with a medium action so it loads up better on the cast. only reason i got it mh was to skip docks with, but im not using huge hooks anyway so i guess it should be fine.

For the same money as the Lightning Rod I suggest getting a Shimano Convergence. It's lighter, more sensitive, way better guides and has a better warranty.

If you used it previously, whether for a few minutes or a few months with no trouble, I SERIOUSLY doubt it was anything but a user caused event. (no offense, but 99% of breaks are user caused) You probably had dinged or nicked that spot unknowingly.

Fiberglass rods are a little more durable. :-X

What Flechero said.  When I read this thread earlier this morning, that was my first thought.

Remember the tv commercials when they first came out ? (70's or 80's) 100 mph on the cast! Hunh? Anyways, i bought 2 when they came out and they were my favorite rods for a number of years. These new ones don't look too swift. 6 guides (including tip) on a 7' rod? Haha maybe only 45 mph on the cast....
