I have seen and read a lot about this and am curious to everyone's opinion.

Spinning reel or BC for fishing plastics?  What gear ratio?  What rod size, power and action?

I fish a spinning combination, 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action.

Weightless soft plastics occasionally go airborne and the mess

that makes on a baitcaster isn't worth it to me.

light pastics in medium weeds = spinning.heavy plastics in thick weeds = bc.

I am a glutton for punishment... I use a BC for EVERYTHING... to include "trying" to skip docks

What is considered a heavy plastic?

I t-rig with a 1/16oz lead on lizards & worms.

I use M 6'6" spinning for most plastics.  I also use 6'6" MH Gloomis IMX for some plastics with baitcaster.  For my large salt craws I use H with baitcaster.

I'm like Al, I use baitcasters for everything. I haven't used a spinning rig in three years.

I actually use 2 different set-ups

1st G.Loomis BCR802MXF MossyBack w/ Curado 200

2nd Custom Lamiglas 5'4" Dock Skipper w/ Pflueger Supreme 8030mg

both serve thier purpose well.

I am currently using a 6'10" G blanks custom M/F baitcasting rod for my plastics, love it even for casting a lot of weightless stuff.  I am using 6 lb. YO ZURI Hybrid Ultra Soft.  Do I still have Spinning rods?  Yep, will I use them? When the situation calls for it.  

I use spinning for fishing t-rigged small, light plastics. When I use a C-rig or use a t-rig with a heavy weight then I'll use a baitcaster.

Casting equipment for everything.

Ok, so it sounds like it is all preference when comparing spinning to bait casting. So know comes the time that I ask, what is a good rod in spinning or bait casting that is around $120. Can't afford the really expensive rods. Looking for 7' M/F

Look at the Shimanos, the Avids, check out BR Outlaw rods, for 139.00 you can upgrade to a Powell rod,  Those G Blank rods off Ebay are about 129.00 as well, and it can be built to your specs.

I have also seen where they recommend high speed spinning reels for plastics.  What is a high speed gear ratio for spinning.

I know that 6.3:1 is a high speed bc and 7.0:1 is a burner, just not seen any ratios near that in a s pinning reel.

BOTH!  No one does it all for me.  here are the rods I use, depending on bait/technique:

6'9" Med/X-Fast spin for DS, light wacky rig, flick shake, light tubes on tube jigs

7' MH/Fast spin for bigger wacky, smaller t-rig, Mojo/split shot, larger tube jigs, flukes, other weightless

6'6" MH/Fast casting for t-rig, c-rig, larger Senko in heavier cover (wacky or weedless), plastic swimbaits, other larger plastics

7'6" XH/X-Fast "flipping stick" for big t-rigs, flipping tubes, frogs, double flukes, XL plastic swimbaits, magnum DS (cannonballing)

Most of my casting reels are 6.3:1 and spinning reels are something like 4.7:1.  Remember, line pickup on spinning reels is a function of BOTH spool size and gear ratio.  A 2500 series reel should pickup about 25" of line with a ratio of about 4.5 to 5:1.
