Avid Handle?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any preference to this handle with the bump? Unfortunately when I made my yearly trip to BPS they didn't have any, so I could not feel it for myself. So I was wondering if it is liked or disliked by owners or if they do not notice. Any advice will help, thanks!

P.S is there a noticeable difference between Avid and Legend Tournament?

I fish several of both rods, if you palm your reel the hump is unnoticable. Legend Tournaments are nice looking, a little lighter than like powered/action Avids, also for instance, a Fast action LT seems a little "faster" than a fast action Avid if that makes sense. Senstivity wise..........boy I wish I had a good answer for you, I just don't see a huge upgrade in the LT over the Avids in this area, yeah they are a little more if I had to say so, but I thing the extra cost of the LT is for the looks. Don't get me wrong, I love my LT's and will buy more, but I wouldn't feel under equiped with all Avids, and when switching from one rod to the other I never feel like taking I am taking a step backwards.

Now if you really want to try a few, look me up, we are both in WNY, I'll let you handle the ones I have and actually use them on the water so you can see for yourself.

I don't personally own an avid but I do own several BPS rods that feature a similar "power hump", while I'm not as big of a fan of BPS rods as I was a few years ago, I do love the hump on the handle. I have big hands and I feel like it gives me a better grip on the rod.

Warsaw, about 35-  40 minutes south of Brockport, right on route 19. I regularly fish Conesus, Honeoye, and Silver Lakes, and have come up to fish I-Bay, Sodus Bay, Port Bay, and Ontario.

I like the power hump.

8-)

ww2farmer pretty much summed up my feelings on the avid vs. legend tourney rods.  I own several of each and while I love my LT's I don't think there is a huge difference in sensitivity or "fishability" when going from LT's to the avids.  I actually think that for the money the Avid is the best buy out there.  Just my opinion.

I'm not sure its so much an added hump on the Avids over the LTB as it is that the full rear cork is thinner than most other brands.

At any rate, the "bump" doesn't faze me, but I do sand the thinner section down about a 1/4" to my liking and round the rubberized cork butt.

I use Avids for my treble hook baits - I have three now - and having a full cork rear grip is a must for me.

I like the power hump.  For whatever reason, it changes the angle of my grip ever so little and makes it more comfortable.  That is the one reason I like split grip rods.  They do the same thing for me with the  way I grip the reel.

I HATE hump grip handles.

I also don't like the Power hump very much, after a little bit of fishing it feels like an entire day of clicking on the computer...carpal tunnel ><

As for the Avids vs LT, fished with both, I can't really tell a difference between the two, I do prefer the split grip design though.  I like how the end of the rod ends in a ball kinda thingy, feels nice sliding in my hand =P

I HATE hump grip handles.

I have to agree with u!
