If munee wuzunt an ishew....

If cash flow was not an issue, but the old ball and chain said you could only have one rod & reel, what would you have for largemouth bass? Please include brand name and specs and maybe a reason or two.

I'm a simple man so, i will take a Loomis MBR843C GLX paired with an Abu Garcia Revo STX, LOL!!!!

This rod is suppose to be a very versatile all around great rod. I could use it for almost every technique i wanted(since i only have one combo). As for the Revo, well, it's a Revo ya know!!!

Well this all depends on a bunch of stuff. Its almost like if money wasn't an issue for a high end car, some people would buy Ferrari's and some would buy Lamborghini's. So it depends on what you want to use with it, and what your personal preference is. Some (most) would pick a Shimano reel and a G Loomis rod. But others might find a Pflueger a better reel and St. Croix a better rod. There is no one set choice on best fishing outfit available. But, generally speaking G Loomis seems to be the best option for rods, as in many people believe them to be best. As for reels it becomes mostly personal preference, but many have gone with Shimano because it has good reputation.

Are you looking for spinning or casting?

What technique do you want to use with it?

I'm not looking for anything at all. I'm just curious what folks would want. I wanted to know what the people were droolin' over out there.

Money no issue? ::D Hmmm, Id take a Stella spinning reel with a G-Loomis rod!  :)

I already have what I want..... several times.  :D

Steez Compile-X 7'1" Heavy

Steez 103HA

The 711 Compile-X has a pretty soft tip. It wouldn't be my first choice for cranking, but it would do ok, and it also would have the power for flipping and pitching. I love my Zillion rods, but cranking isn't going to happen with them :D.

Reel - Shimano Core

Rod - Custom. Why buy something off the rack that everyone else has? You'd do a custom car, golf clubs, etc... fishing is no different.

If $$$ was NOT an issue, but wife says I could only have 1 rod/reel.................I would find a new wife.

  • Super User

Well she already says that I don't need more than one rod and reel, that's why I have 10....

Let's see, probably would go custom for the rod and as for the reel, it would be a toss up between a zillion and a core

The reel would be simple yet functional

Shimano Calcutta TE50GT

Gear Ratio: 5:8.1

Weight: 7.2 oz

Bearings: 11+1

The rod I would like to own my first custom built worm rod to the following specs

Length: 6' 10

Line: 10-20 lb

Lure: 3/8-3/4

Power: Medium Heavy

Action: Extra Fast

Why?

I believe in keeping my tools simple, functional, durable & dependable :D

steez 103hs

custom built 6'10 MH fast action rod on a GLX blank with no foregrip and a tapered handle.

If cash flow was no issue I'd look in the "OB&C's" closet and if there was more than one jacket or coat or more than one of shoes per season I'd negotiate a better deal.
