Do you guys think trilene XL is brittle and without much abrasion ressitance at all? Or am I smoking glue on this one?

I wouldn't say it sucks excatly but it definitely wouldn't be my first choice

Like XL while its fresh,takes a couple of weeks to start coiling on me.I'll respool it when it does.

If it sucked, it wouldn't be used as the benchmark in so many comparisons.  It's a classic like a 1967 Camaro.  Not the latest technology, but still does its job and fun to use.  If it says 6#, breaks at 6# and doesn't have a lot of memory, it's working as advertised.

I use it a lot. Never "brittle" but does not have much abrasion resistance, not supposed too either. In open water or sparse cover it is fine for me. It is cheap so I respool every 5 trips or so. (I love fresh line) When conditions warrant an abbrasion resistant line I have rigs spooled up with yo zuri ultra soft. If you are looking for a line to put on the reel once a year XL is not a good choice, IMHO.

i love it for my spinning rigs... for baitcasters ill stick with my yo-zuri hybrid tho.

I've used that line for years, but after switching to braid, I wont go back.

I think you're thinking about XT. XL is the thin, better casting stuff.

I used to use it all the time. It is pretty manageable and it casts pretty well. I definitely wouldn't use it near any heavy cover though.

It's quality cheap mono.  Probably the same as Stren Original.

Therein lies the key.  It isn't line for fishing cover.

It happens constantly.  People buy line, use it in the wrong place, then say the line sucks because they were using it in a manner inconsistant with it's purpose.

XL isn't brittle.  It's extra limp or smooth casting.  It's also not very abrasion resistant, but that's the whole point.  If you want an abrasion resistant mono then buy XT (extra tough) or Big Game.  If you want a superior managing line then get XL.

I've used it for years with no problem at all. It is my general purpose line of choice. Now with a little KVD line treatment I have it on reels for more than two years with no problem. I respool when I need more line. Little wood or weed in my lakes but lots of rock. I watch for abrasion very closely.

I got my spinning rigs with XL for light cover.

Baitcaster rigs with XT for heavier cover.

It's still my favorite line...I gave up trying to look for better line.

I do like yo-zuri hybrid soft,but the stuff is getting harder to find.

Gotti and Bruce got m to try it, my first full season using it, I have been more than pleased so far.

A good entry-level line for beginners.

X2 I know mono stretches but it does seem to have a little more give even when compared to other mono lines.
