Need a new rod and reel

Featured Replies

I need a new baitcaster and rod. Looking to spend no more that $250, what are my choices? My old one was a Quantum set up that was 18 years old. I have no preferences in brand but, BPS have a few that catch my eye. I also saw in Bassmasters magazine, they did a article on rods under $70. This would give me more to spend on a better reel. I mainly use crankbaits and worms if that helps.

Thanks for your help,

Scott.

This rod and reel are offered in our Flea Market. If you can negotiate

a slightly better price or find another $25, these would make an

exceptional rig within your budget:

The rod:

G. Loomis MBR 782C IMX 6'6"

Got this rod in February. It's in excellent condition. It was bought for

$240 back in February.

It's very versatile. I used it for jerkbaits in the colder months and

topwater in the warmer. Just slayed them at Guntersville on a spook

with this rod. It's also great for small cranks and light jigs.

Asking $175, includes shipping.

And the reel:

Citica 200E

Asking $100 shipped with ups tracking and insurance!

For the rod I would go anywhere from 6'6" to 7' MH.  I have a couple carrot stix 6'9" MH that I can use for almost anything.  All the name(St croix, falcon, etc) rods in the $100-$150 range are going to be pretty good.   For the reel I would go RevoSX or CuradoE7.  Try Ebay, you'll save a TON over retail at BPS.

id go with an abu garcia revo sx reel you can find them pretty much everywhere for 150-170,either that or shimano curado...go to your local bps pick them up and get a feel for both as for a rod you can try out the st.croix mojo bass rod for 100 and at bps they got a huge fathers day sale going on so might be able to get it for less otherwise try one of the bps rods out i have a few of theyre extreme rods that work fine for me never had a problem.

What about the Daiwa TD Pro and a MOJO rod? The price will make me happier.

Scott.

The Shimano Citica is a better reel for the exact same price. On a 6'6" or 7 Med or Med-Heavy Mojo Bass.

The Shimano Citica is a better reel....

I agree the Shimano Citica is a decent reel (have a D, and hope the E is better) but how do you know it's better than the TD Pro?  Do you have both?

Na, I read a couple reviews. Bass pro reviews. And the fact that Tackle Warehouse & Cabelas do not carry it.

Diawa Tierra 153H and St. Croix Triumph.  About 150 for both and completely awesome.  I fish this setup daily with 10lb mono and land 'em always.  Just find out where they are, set the hook and pull 'em in. :-X

Right here man. And some extra cash for some new line, lures, whatever.

Fished a Rick Clunn for 3 years and never missed a beat.

OK, I got the Citica and a Mojo Bass. I spent a little more that I had wanted, but, this seems like a heck of a steup.  I still haven't figured out the adjustments yet, I am used to the magnetic spool control. I've lashed it a few times but nothing too bad. When I have it to where it won't nest at the end of the cast, my distance isn't good.  Oh well, I'll get it worked out.

Thanks for all of your help, now, will somebody take me fishin?

Scott.

I have 2 active and the spool a little tighter. Think this may be the problem?

i pretty much agree with this combo.  hard to beat at this price range.  have several mojo bass and revo combos and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
