Anyone here ever used 12 lb yo-zuri ultra soft on spinning gear (shimano or daiwa, 2500-3000 size)? How does it cast/handle? Would you recommend it when some extra strength is needed? Any alternatives? Thanks.

NO ONE here uses Yozuri.  Pretty much everyone rates it right there with the Banjow Minnow.

I use yozuri US on all my reels..I wouldn't go as high as 12 lb on your 2500/300o spinn ing reel, 10 lb would be max..don't forget this line is strong..If you need 12 lb or stronger, get a bigger reel. just my 3 cents.

BTW, I use 6 and 8 lb on my 2500 spinning reels.

I use 12lb Hybrid on my Energy PTi30 with no problems.  It's a big reel, same size as a Pflueger x6740...not sure how that relates to a shimano or daiwa but these are pretty large spools.  I just fill my spool up 90%, one spool will last over a year.

yo zuri is all i use. on everything. well.... cept powerpro braid....

So far, I haven't been won over by YZ-US on BC gear, so I wouldn't even consider it on my Daiwa 2500's.  On the other hand, Gamma Copoly in #10 is fantastic on spinning reels (and also BC reels).  The only downside is the cost of Gamma.  Considering the number of lures I lose each outing, the higher price for Gamma is negligible.

No offense Bassn but In my opinion this is a very inaccurate statement. From what I've read on this site their are many members on the board ( me included ) who use Yo-zuri Ultrasoft. I cannot comment directly on 12lb for spinning as I don't use that high of a lb test so that could be a source of difference for the statement.

In my opinion lb test vs diameter has become somewhat of a joke for advertising. Yo-zuri's breaking spec's are quite a bit higher than the lb test they advertise so use that for a comparison when deciding lb strength and diameter. I use mainly 6 & 8# test & some 4. I love the stuff and at its price point rates very high in my book. One of the moderators posts about Yo-zuri ( smaller lb test I believe ) and he has some impressive smallmouth in his hands in his avatar.

Do a search on Yo-zuri its had lots of discussion pro and con but I've seen many a post about liking it. If you don't find something right away in the search keep trying as it has something to be desired as search tools go.

I would not go any higher than 8# line on spinning gear.  If you think you need more strength, move to braid.  I like 15# Power Pro with a fluoro leader for my spinning gear.  This is a very strong set up.

No offense is taken here but look at the smiley face.  See him wink?  That means I'm joking.  I was more less bustin on RoadWarrior who sleeps with a spool under his pillow.

I love Yo-Zuri, but my local stores BPS and Cabelas are either no longer carrying it or they are just taking their sweet time getting more in.  So in the mean time I am trying out some P-Line CXX X-tra and so far this line in my opinion is just as good as Yo-Zuri.  Only time will tell.

Soft is too heavy. I recommend #6 (.010" diameter,  11.9 lb breaking

strength). For baitcasting gear, #12 is perfect (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb

breaking strength).

Ditto for me although I use 8lb on a 2500 series.  The 12 is perfect for a baitcaster.
