How many rods have you broken on a hookset?

Featured Replies

Just curious.......

I have broke my fair share and then some.  I feel like I take pretty good care of my equipment and shouldn't break as many.  I have a "real" hookset, but nothing out of the ordinary....

discuss please ;D

Same here.

Just broke my first in a tournament this weekend.  I was flipping in the middle of a grass bed and set the hook on a log I couldn't see.  Loomis FSR904X IMX... I used the Xpeditor service for the first time this morning.

Zero.

Zero times on a hookset. I do use mostly mono which is pretty stretchy. Now, folks that use mostly braid might have more problems ....

I did break a section of a 5-piece pack rod (with metal ferrules) back in the 1960s while taking it apart...only time I recall breaking a rod.

None.

I have broken 2 rod tips on cheap rods, just bought replacement tips.

None, and I have a "real" hookst as you say as well, but I can name you other stupid things I have done to break rods. Most of them standard idiotic fare, the truck door/window/tailgate, rod locker lids, stepped on when on the boat deck, ceiling fan, front door of the house, dead lifting big fish into the boat, and more................

Zero.

None so far.  I hope I never do but I sometimes put a little too much mustard on my hooksets.

1...Q's KVD Signature Series spinning rod. Broke it in half, just past the first guide. 21" 6# Larry. Top half of the rod slid down into the water, following the fish. It took awhile (once I got past the shock of the rod snapping) to land the bass. Mixed emotions - I was excited and ticked off at the same time. I had the BPS insurance, so they took it back. Needless to say, I went another route and stayed away from the Marketing Monkey.

None for me too. So far, so good. The only time I swing for the fences is when I am batting.  ;D ;)

On a hookset: 1, defective polymer injected tip new model Berkley Lighting Rod, the rod exploded  ;)

Trying to unsnag a lure when I was fishing from shore: 2

None. I broke one lifting a small bass over some shoreline weeds (cheapo Dick's F&S rod) and I broke a fly rod a couple weeks ago in mid-cast. Second trip out with that rod and it just snapped in half, about 4" above the ferrule.

none............... And I have been setting hooks for over 30 years. Just lucky I guess.
