finally got me a heavy action rod and picked up some Power Pro braid..

holy cow this stuff is strong!!   

after tying on with a palomar knot (is that the best/easiest knot?/)  no leader.

my clippers wouldn't cut the stuff!!

what do you use to cut the excess with after tying on?  a good knife?  or is there a better/best tool to get?

i used to use a pair of fiskars untill i found out that my craftsman diagonal cutters will cut powerpro. ive tried a few different ones ive had laying around but those seem to work best for me.

They should make some braid cutters out of zebra mussels.

Razor blade works pretty well. There are a bunch of tools out there you can use. Can't remember who makes it but they have one that heats up and cuts through the barid and prevents the ends from fraying. I've never used it but it looked interesting. (I believe it was a berkley product)

Knife.  Scissors.  Multi-Tool.  Seat Belt Cutter on knife.

Serrated blade scissors work well.  The serration helps grab the braid to cut it.  Rapala brand is pretty inexpensive and works great

I bought some small scissors made especially for braid, cost about 4.00..they slice right through braid..

I buy the cheapest pair of scissors that Walmart has (usually less than a dollar); cuts samurai braid just fine.

I invariably keep losing them, each pair averages about 2 months. So I get the smallest and the cheapest. Works for me.

When I'm out of scissors, a nailclipper works okay too; just that they usually cost more.

fingernail clippers work well too

I use nothing but PP and cutting is simple.  If you smoke nothing is better than a cigarette or a cigarette lighter.  I don't carry scissors anymore, just something else to get in the way, I can cut braid with almost any pliers once you get the knack of it.

If you get a good pair of sharp clippers, they work great (the toenail clippers are better built for cutting braid). The cheapo scissors work good too. The only thing I hate using when cutting off tag ends is a knife...

cuticle scissors fit nicely in my plano boxes.

i havent been using braid for very long but the palomar hasnt failed me yet.

I have some angled style nail clippers I picked up from Academy sports which has a lanyard attached to it.  Makes it easy to attach it to my tackle bags zipper and always have it easily accessible. 

I read somewhere that improved clinch is good because braid slips; also leaving a longer tag end may be beneficial.

The Palomar and Double Palomar have never failed me.  Some braids can slip a little.  Thats where the double helps.

I use a pair of Fiskars scissors for my cutting.  They by far work the best from what I've found.  I can cut braid without having to hold the line tight.  Makes it very easy to trim line nice and neatly.

A good sharp pocket knife cuts it cleanly.

You tie the knot properly and it will not slip.  I hardly ever use a palomar( it is an excellent knot) I use a standard clinch knot on 15 -20# braid and it holds perfectly.  I catch a lot of saltwater fish 20# + with no problems.
