With $250 to spend.....I'd look into a custom rod.  I had Fury Custom rods build me a spinnerbait rod recently and it was money well spent. I got what couldn't be had off the shelf at a very reasonable price.

St. Croix Avid AVC70MHF its the best spinnerbait rod Ive used to date. If I was going smaller I would use the same rod just medium action. At $190 u save some cash for the bait monkey too...

I use a Dobyns Champion 733C for what you described and would absolutely recommend it over any other rod in that price range. I prefer 7'+ rods, if that is not for you then I would recommend either the 703C or 683C depending on your preference. I feel that the added length really helps with casting distance and it is weighted beautifully so that it doesn't feel as long as it is by any means.

That's the rod I use for spinnerbaits, a tad heavy but the best action and power combination I have found.

I really like the Loomis MBR783. You could find it in IMX for around that price range. The St. Croix 6'-6" MF is also nice. Probably find it in LT or Avid in your price range. I stick with Loomis and Croix for all my fishing rods. In general I prefer Loomis casting and Croix spinning rods.

Dobyns 733 or 734 depending on the type of cover you're fishing. If you need a little extra power, go with the 734, if you're spinnerbaiting in open water go with the 733. Both work great!

If anything, I'd skimp on the rod budget to upgrade on the reel. Spinnerbait fishing is tons of cranking, very, very hard on reels.

For 1/2 oz or less,  an Avid AVC70MF/ Shimano Metanium.

For heavier lures, St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF/ Calais.

I would go with the 6'9" abu garcia veritas. It's MH with an extra fast action. In my opinion, you don't need a super sensitive rod for fishing a spinnerbait. If they are going to hit a spinnerbait, then you will know it.....

Yes, but was that grass I just ran through or cabbage? Is the bottom I just bounced off of rocks or sand? Is my tandem willow leaf blade turning at eleventeen rpm, and speaking of my willow leaf blade, is that a zebra mussel clinging to my titanium wire? If those things are important to you, then sensitivity is important. Whether or not those things are important to you, I suppose, depends on your situation.

I use an All Star Platinum, 6'6" MXF I got for a song a while back when *** was clearing them out. This handles most of my baits from 1/4 to 3/4 without much problem. I hardly ever throw a 1 oz. spinnerbait.

X2!!! I have a IMX MH and a H - MH is great for general spinner baits and the H is fantastic for messy weeds. 6'6 is a good all around size for it.

I've been running with a St Croix Avid AVC68MXF, and its just about perfect for spinnerbaits.

Go ahead, get after it. It was a joke, anyway.  I couldn't tell the difference in those things if was down there looking at 'em. Some people can, and want a really sensitive rod for everything. The point of that post was to say...

7' MH Fenwick HMG...It was more then half the price you are looking at, but IMO just as good of a rod...or better. Take a serious look at this rod.

I fish open water lakes. Most of the time I just try to get a little bottom contact, so I don't need a high priced rod. But, if you are going to be using  it a lot, you should think about weight and the quality of the reel.

The first thing I want in a spinnerbait rod is a short handle. Spinnerbaiting is, for me, a short range, target game.

I prefer to make short 'roll" casts, keeping the bait in a flat trajectory, low to the water, then stop it right before it enters the water, to make as silent any entry as possible. I like to hit lots of targets when spinnerbait fishing.

A long handle gets in the way, catching on sleeves vest pockets, etc.

It's getting harder to find a rod with a short handle. I have two Setyr rods I use for spinnerbaits. Both 6'6", one M-F, one MH-F. Both have a handle about 8" from the front of the reel seat to the end.

I already answered this, but after some thought.....I throw spinnerbaits on a few different rods. For the sniper style short target stuff ghoti is talking about, I agree, a short handle is a must. This is probably the bulk of my spinnerbaiting. I use an Avid AVC62MXF. For long casts on shoals and flats in clear water, I go up to a AVC68MXF. For slow rolling in deep water in rocks or coontail, I'll use my LTB70MF or LTBMHF depending on the cover.
