I just picked up a St. Croix Premier on clearance at Dicks sporting goods for 39.99...  I got the 6'6 MH Baitcasting rod... how did I do, and what would everyone use this rod for?  It retails there for 119.99

The St Croix rods really come into their own at the Avid level and up. If you were paying full retail, I'd say the extra $50 is well worth it, but at $40 I think you got a good deal. A 6'6" MH should make a good multi purpose rod if it's a fast action.

It is a Fast action.. They had Avids there and I even had a sales associate scan it in hopes that it would ring up cheaper.. but they were still full retail.. I dont really need the rod but it is one of the ones that are made in the USA so i figured i would give it a try... It was priced lower than the made in China Triumphs...

It's worth it at that price , good buy.

I'm anxious to use it.. pretty much all of my rods are 7ft MH.. and I have an 8ft flippin stick.. I wanted a little bit shorter rod with some back bone and I think i should be happy with this one.. if not, my fiancee is getting into fishing (i just bought her a pfleugar lady endevour baitcaster and rod from dicks for 14 bucks..) and i'm sure it'd be a good rod for her to use when i'm not using it.. 

A premier was my first dable into St. Croix rods and i was immediatly impressed. IMO a very good rod for the price and it will compete with most other rods at that price point. Avids are far step above but the cost is nearly 50% more, good buy!

At that price, you could trade it in to St Croix  and have an Avid for about $100 total cost.  But even if you keep it, you got a great deal on that rod.

Premiers are great rods, as are any SCII rod like the Mojo's and Triumphs. They are far and away better than most other high end rod companys entry level rods, and very affordable.

I used that exact same rod for many years before upgrading.  Not the most sensitive rod in the world,  but a good solid rod.  I caught my 2 personal best largemouth with that rod and my pb northern(40") also along with many many other fish.  I have some better rods now,  but that rod will always be remembered.

I have a lot of high end rods, but I also have a couple of Premiers that I just can't let go. You stole it for #40. Good job!! I use mine for bank fishing soft plastics.

I'm just echoing everyone else, you did great! IMHO, I'd look at using the upgrade program and pick up an Avid. That's like an $80 discount on an Avid. Either way you did good and enjoy your St Croix.

They actually had a 7' MF and a 6'6MF there as well.. I'm in huge need of a new spinning outfit but sadly, all they had was casting rods..

My first St. Croix rod was a Premier crankbait series and I was very impressed.  For $40, you absolutly will not find a better rod.  It competes with all other $100 rods on the market.  It is probably my 2nd favorite $100 rod, right behind the Abu Verita.

Use braid and it's not a problem. I keep a 6'6" M/F St. Croix Triumph spinning rod in the back of my car/truck at all times.

man, i'm starting to think i really lucked out!!  They had Quantum Code combos there baitcasting and spinning for 39.99 too.. 

I picked up 3 Premier rods today at 39 bucks each. Called my buddy and he grabbed 2. Dang good deal!

That's a great deal.  Premiers are my favorite rod for $100 and under.

That same 6' 6" MH/F was my very first baitcasting rod.  I still have it.  My Dad uses it to toss 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.
