If you could have ONE spinning rod...

Featured Replies

What would it be?  I'm not talking brand/model.  I need to buy a spinning rod and I need a good all-around rod.

SO, what length / action would you carry if you could only carry ONE spinning rod with you when you fish?

7 foot Med Power Fast Action will cover a multitude of applications.

Yup 7' Med/Fast is definitely the most versatile spinning set up. Depending on what the baitcast arsenal looks like, I might go ML/F-XF. Especially if he spinning rig will be for finesse baits in relatively open water.

6'8" - 7' MF or MLF depending on the brand.

Depends on your budget...

G.Loomis NRX 803 JWR, GLX SJR783S or SJR843S

Less expensive, but still "high-end"

St. Croix Legend Elite LES70MF

Next...

Avid AVS68MXF or AVS70MF

8-)

Wow ! For myself, that would be practically impossible. Two rods, no problem at all. 1 heavy action, 7 1/2ft spinning rod for my swimbaits, and 1 micro-light, for nearly everything else.

I just use my medium weight rods so rarely.... except maybe for Spring sight fishing.

Peace,

Fish

PS, Like I always say, an angler can land any fish, on any gear.... The reason for different weights of gear, is to properly handle / present, different baits / lures.

6'6" M/F

6'6"-7' M/F

Depends on your target species and even more important the conditions you mostly fish.  All around a med rod is good but they will vary from brand to brand, not all mediums are created equal.

Not every angler can, only very experienced ones.  No way could I handle the fish I catch on extremely light tackle without running them down with a boat, reel just doesn't hold enough line.

Well said.

7' MF...only thing I would have trouble with is in-tight skipping!

Avid AVS70MF.

Thanks everyone!  Looks like 6'6"-7' MF is the popular vote.  As much as I'd like to go with the Loomis or St. Croix, they're a little out of my price range.  I was looking more towards the Veritas or I might be able to squeeze out the funds for a Verdict.
