Yeah, I am not sure a leader would matter around midlake.

I don't think I caught a single fish on the drop shot this time up. I've got 8 lb sunline flouro spooled up and using a 3/16 oz weight. I caught some some small fish on my 16' honey hole on the Carolina rigged fluke plus a few on a 6XD/blue, chartreuse, orange. Caught a few fish on a Zoom Mag II watermelon red magic that I bit a couple inches off. 250KVD 2.5 chartreuse perch fooled some fish. Many of these were with a north wind blowing and trolling motor coming out of the water. Had some more crankbait fish on a  250 MD 6th sense plus an old H20 goldish shad colored crankbait that dove maybe 8'.

I didn't chase them hard with the many weather changes and the company I had isn't a die hard!

I'm still catching fish on main lake points and ledges on a dropshot, jig, Carolina rig, and a crankbait.  Water temps are hovering 62-64 and the bass are still grouped up.  It should only get better and better as we get more cold fronts.  We are catching 30-50 fish a day and usually have a couple of good ones mixed in.  We had two 6lbers Friday.  

Damnit.  I may try to run up there this weekend for a quick trip.

Well the hunting season has been good to my family. The freezers are stocked and now it's time to turn my attention back to fishing . Oh by the way. Is anyone here a humminbird guru ?  I've got some issues with my front unit that I need looked at .

I'll be there Wed. - Sat. Brrrrrrr..... Hoping to find'em moving back in the creeks....

My transducer cable got damaged in rough water so I used the liquid tape to keep moisture out. It worked fine for several months.  Then one day I started losing my sonar and down imaging pics . I swapped my front unit with my back unit and I did the same thing so I figured I needed to replace my transducer. I bought a xtm 9 di 25 t trolling motor transducer. After install , my sonar seems to work fine but all I get is a faint pic barely showing the bottom contour on my down imaging. I've reset factory defaults and can't get any better adjusting sensativety . It almost seems like a setup issue but I can't seem to set it up right.  I have a 6 month old Helix 9 DI chirp GN2 unit up front

I've been in contact with Humminbird service department and they want me to update my software and if it doesn't work to ship it and the transducer to them . Everybody I know runs lowrance units , I would love to have someone familiar with birds look at it before I ship my unit back to Alabama .

I'll be happy to look at it for you. I will be at Rayburn Friday and Saturday and hopefully Toledo early next week. You are welcome to drive to Rayburn this weekend and meet me or wait until next week. Either way is fine by me.

Don't know if this is the problem, but a review of compatible sonars on the Humminbird web page for the transducer model you stated, does not list the Helix 9 DI Chirp.  It does list the Helix 9 DI and the Helix 7 & 5 Chirps.  So this seems a bit strange.

 

Did some more searching on the HB website.  No matter which way I search, starting with the transducer and looking for compatible units or starting from the units and looking for compatible tranducers, the XTM 9 DI 25 T is stated as being compatible with the Helix 7 & 5 DI Chirp but not the Helix 9.  Hopefully this is just an oversight on the part of HB.

I've been on the phone with humminbird customer service 3 times.  And not once did they give me the information you just did. I have suspected something like that could be the problem but their answer was that this transducer was compatable with all di units.  But does that apply with di with chirp.  I just don't know enough about birds to determine that. What's sad is if that's the problem I'll have to eat this transducer. Thanks

By no means am I an expert on this, so I hope I am wrong and it is just a settings issue and an omission on their website.  What I do know is CHIRP is a different technology than the standard 2-D sonar.  It was developed for sub-bottom profiling (seeing into the sediment).  Was looking at going in on a professional unit with a friend to search for submerged and buried old growth cypress logs south of New Orleans (another story).  It makes no sense that HB would make this compatible with the 5 and 7 but not the 9.  Been running HBs for a number of years now and they are good units.  But it seems there is always another piece of hardware I need to take full advantage of upgrades.

CHIRP was actually developed in the 50s (?).  Sub-bottom profiling was a later use.  It emits multiple frequencies at once vs standard sonar which sends out only one.

My last post on this issue.  Per the Humminbird Factory Outlet website, you original transducer (XNT 9 DI T) could generate signals in 3 frequencies:  83, 200, and 455 kHz.  The one you have now (XTM 9 DI 25 T) only has 200 and 455 kHz.  Everything I've ever read about CHIRP references a low, mid, and high frequency.  Oddly enough, the outlet website says your current transducer will work with the Helix 12 CHIRP.  What's up with that!  Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

 

Have to edit this post, as some of this info is questionable.  While CHIRP comes in Low, Mid, and High, these are ranges of frequencies and not individual frequencies.  The CHIRP pulse emits all the frequencies within a given range, ie, 80 to 150 kHz or 160 to 250 kHz.  So to imply your transducer can't do this may not be correct.
