What's everybody's go to soft plastic color for the big pond?

For me it really depends on the color of the  water but watermelon red magic, watermelon candy red, junebug, junebug w/red flake, red bug, black/blue will cover just about anything. If I had to pick just one.... you guessed it june-bug!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

I'll be Staying at Fin and Feather on Housen for a few nights next week with my 3 year old son.  Not sure what to expect, I've never really fished the Texas side of the lake.

How familiar are you with the boat lanes in Housen?

Not at all actually.  Only the boat lane markings on my Navionics hotmaps chip.  I was actually gonna ask if there was anything I needed to watch out for.  I was thinking about trying all those flats and creeks across from F&F.  Is any part of that red line I drew safe to get up on top, or just idle the entire way?  I also plan to try around N. Housen if its not to rough, I'll have my 3 year old so I gotta keep it enjoyable for him.  Any tips you have for boat lanes and fishing would be greatly appreciated.

You differently ain't gonna run that red line!

My suggestion, look at Hurricane Bayou, easier to get to from Fin-n-Feather.

Your biggest concern will be rough water. If it's windy Google Jacks 944 marina & trailer over there.

I was looking at hurricane. Thought it looked like a good area to try. Do you think most fish will be in hurricane or closer to where hurricane opens up to the main lake?

Start at the island, work the east side, then on into Hurricane on the west side, about 3/4 if the way back switch to the east side.

Stay a little over casting distance away from the shoreline throwing your favorite technique.

I’ll try that for sure, thanks for the tips. Any idea if there is any grass growing? I saw google earth updated their imagery to January of this year. Looked like there may have been little patches of grass starting to grow but it was hard to tell. I know you always say it’s all about structure, but being a marsh guy, it always helps my confidence to see a little grass thrown in the mix. ?

Haven't been since March but there is some starting to grow in various areas.

I’m getting up there Sunday afternoon/evening. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Checking in guys for a report on the big pond?  We are leaving for North Toledo State Park on Thursday for a father and son camping trip as an early Father's day present.  Set up camp that afternoon, have some adult beverages and good food, then on the water early Friday morning.  Any suggestions?

Bring your rain gear.

Might wanna take some fish too!

Was there last Tue-Thur. Concentrated on main lake point with c-rig, jig, T-rig. Main baits were the TrickStick and baby brush hog. Avg. about 10 fish a day with no size. Worked from Lowes creek down to Six Mile. Tried spooning and saw a ton of fish come look at the bait but only got one tug on the spoon.

Was trying out my new Lowrance ActiveTarget. Had battery problems for all three days so didn't get to play with it much but from what I did see it is a difference maker. I caught fish I otherwise would not have. I was chunking a trap. I could see fish below my trap coming back to the boat. Killed the trap and let it flutter down. Wham.... non-keeper in the boat. I stayed in areas where I could see fish and caught some simply because I knew they were there and didn't make a couple of cast then leave.

Looks like we should get a break from the rain for a few days starting Thursday!  Least amount of rain chances we've seen in probably 3 months! LOL!  But it is LA, and that can change every minute!

Dont put any trust in any weather report for sabine parish. It will be 100% wrong 365 days a year. I live here.

I need some help on night fishing.
Should I just sit on main lake points and wait on fish or should I fish lighted bank areas?

Both ?

My approach to night fishing is the same as daytime fishing, ya got to establish where they are at!

Thanks.  I have no problem finding fish during daylight hours. But after dark I struggle.  My wife and I fish a small club out of shadows and we fished a derby last weekend. We found a stretch of bank that held some fish on it but blew thru it and sought out other areas similar to it with no luck. I guess my question is. Were fish moving up in that shallow area to feed or was it resident fish that were feeding there ?
