I'm gonna head out to Jacomo around 5-5:30. I've been catching most of my fish with a raspberry brush hog in grass. Any bait tips or locations I should try?!? If your out say hello. I'll be the only guy with a stick steer on the lake. 

well, spent 6 hours at James A Reed this morning. Used a Trig'd & Crig'd curly tail, super fluke, and weightless senko.  Went to Cat Claw, Gopher, and Jack Rabbit lake. Didn't catch anything until about 11:30 with a super fluke. Couple small LM's and that's about it. I'm demoralized. lol

 

Gonna try again Saturday.

Enphrared, fishing at James A Reed can be tough but it's a great place to walk the bank. I do t live to far from there. Shoot me a message next time you go out if you want someone to fish with.

Chris and I fished Wabaunsee 7/3 at 7:30pm to 10:00am on the 4th. Water was muddy and man there was a lot of people out there! I can't believe for all the grief you get putting a boat on the water that they allow all the stupidity and trash all the campers were creating. I guess maybe they were hoping all the fireworks getting shot into the lake would kill the zebra mussels? Or maybe all the trash will choke their little filters up and kill them. It was loud and frustrating for the first couple hours. We caught a bunch of dink smallies off the dam and that was about as far as we could get from it so we went up and down the dam a few times until it got dark and started quieting down. We both got disappointed by a couple big drum on the dam and it was slow going anytime we'd get into one of the coves, they're holding on main lake summertime stuff for sure. About midnight I finally set the hook into some weight that didn't start rolling. Fish was still much larger than I thought when I swung her in.

After that it was just dink smallmouth after dink smallmouth, like smaller than 10" kind of dinks. It got cold around 3 and we were both tired when we got back to the dock but after some sandwiches and a quick power nap in the truck we were back at it at 4. As the sky was just starting to turn dark blue my jig got thumped again. Again the fish was much larger than I thought when I swung it in.

Big fish of the night went 4.52 pounds. A couple casts later with the Big Head Wobbler when it got crushed.

Chris caught a nice smallie off the corner of the dam on a jig but it flopped out of his grip and back into the water before it's photo shoot. Before we left I had another good one try to swallow the Big Head Wobbler.

Was not an easy night by any means but all things considered it was pretty good.

hit up Perry yesterday and had a slower day than normal.. ended up finding some structure in deeper water and the fun started... missed a really big fish that snapped my line to start. Despite all the warmer weather deeper water tactic, weve been catching them in shallow structure until yesterday. all we threw was a Trigged worm. Im about to make a quick Olathe trip this evening followed by a Perry trip in the morning... also caught a massive, crowd favorite drum! Threw him back for you guys to catch..

Please wash your boat before you go to Olathe to prevent spreading zebra mussels to it from Perry

lake olathe was active again... texas rigged worm in shaded areas. i hit the car wash and power wash my boat after every use... texas habit to prevent saltwater corrosion..

Im pretty excited about this forum.. I love to fish the KC area. Any reports from Critzer for this season? I plan to hit it on Saturday morning.

well critzer is a fun lake but man talk about hard fishing not lack of bites its just the lack of getting them out of the trees that make it so hard i bet there are alot of fish in there swimming with jigs stuck in there mouth loli know of at least 10 or more lol from last year!

Yeah, I hear the trees are nasty, anyone been out there in the past couple of weeks? I am curious if fishing the trees is even necessary, or if you can get em on the dam, or in the deeper timber. That Southwest end of the lake seems pretty hairy for me and my 17' Lowe..

 

What's the best spot to go to within an hour of Lawrence? From perusing the thread, seems Lake Olathe or Perry is my best bet. Thoughts?

Went to Leavenworth State Lake this morning. No monsters but probably 25 or 30 nice bass in the 13 to 16 inch range. It was fun.

Melvern, Perry, Osage, Lone Star, Richmond, Cedar Valley, Shawnee State Lake, all good lakes for bass.

Mound City is good and so is Pleasanton.

Peter and I night fished Jacomo last night. Never lost or missed so many fish in my life   Lost count of how many heavy fish I hooked and lost or rod about got jerked out of my hand and I didn't even touch them with the hook. I caught one solid fish that was 3.39 pounds and most of the rest were small. Wind was a little stronger than I would have liked but overall it was a very nice night on the lake.I caught one really healthy looking channel cat on a shakyhead too that was probably 3 pounds.

Went fishing at jacomo today and caught three. Caught one on the north end at the dam and the other two down on the south end. Caught them all on brush hogs. Last week I had some success with the ned rig but not today.
