Lake Olathe looked pretty open on the North West side. Looked like some ice still out on the South East side

Also spotted a dead bass on the bank when I was checking water temp. ☹️

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

That's not a bass. It looks like a gizzard shad,

I kinda thought that might be the case but it looked too big.

Olathe has huge gizzard shad, some 14-16 inchers.

Olathe was mostly thawed a few days ago so I'm sure it is by now. It's about as tough a lake as you can find early in the year, but you can't catch them without trying. There's a couple ponds by the lake that I'd fish instead of the lake if I was on the bank.

Hey @Bluebasser86, mind sharing any specific ponds in that area? I'll be taking my 11yr old daughter out tomorrow morning. Looking for a good spot to snag our first big (?) bass of the year. Thanks for any tips!

Cedar Lake in Olathe used to give up nice fish. Today it gave up nothing.

I drove almost 2 hours sputh today to catch about 10 fish. Everything looked good, fish that bit were aggressive, just couldn't find many of them and the only good one I had pulled off.

Fished Blue Springs lake Monday. Water temps were 42-45. Had a 2-3 feet of vis. Most of the fish I marked were suspending in 15-20 ft of water off main lake points. I did not have any luck with those fish. Tried fishing shallow with flatsides and rk crawlers. They didn’t want cranks. Finally got a solid fish with a wacky rigged trick worm. And a couple dinks with a Ned. Probably a couple weeks before we see them start moving up shallower in numbers.

Fished the local puddle this morning for 2.5 hours in the gentle Kansas breeze. Jerkbait bite was good and I got 1 on a homemade bladed jig. 1 4lber on the jerkbait and the one on the bladed jig was just shy of 5lbs sitting in 3' of water.

Caught about 8 fish today, all on jerkbaits, at Lake Lenexa.  The wind was awful.  Biggest was 2.5 pounds.  Water temps broke 51 degree back in a pocket of timber.

Went to Douglas county lake, last weekend and caught 8 bass and two crappie.  Biggest was 3.5-4, water temps never broke 43 degrees.  They came on jerkbaits, and one on a Megabass Dark Sleeper.

That's a heck of a doco fish. Good work!

A year ago today a buddy of mine had a 20lb bag from DOCO. A 5, 5 1/4, one a little over 6 (his PB), with a 2.5 and a 3 to round out his limit. He got broke off in a brush pile on a spinnerbait by one he thought was bigger than the 6 he caught. There's a lot more big fish in there than most people think, it's just hard getting past the dinks and they have so much to eat.

Thanks, I went out with a buddy and that was a fish he caught.  Caught my first fish of the year, and my first ever jerkbait fish.

Recommendations for someone/somewhere to replace a rod tip?

Have a rod thats been sitting in corner of my garage for about a year with a broke tip. It’s a pflueger president combo from Cabelas I got a year or so after college when I got back into fishing. It’s about 8 years old so a little sedimental but obviously don’t want to put more than $20 into a rod/reel combo I paid $50 for.

Closer to JOCO preferred. Heard mondo tackle had a guy but they’ve since closed.

It's really easy to do yourself with one of the rod repair kits you can get from Walmart for a few bucks. I've done a bunch of my own and several for other guys, it's a quick and easy fix and if you don't get it right the first time, it's easy to adjust it.

I agree, the do it yourself kits are very simple to use, give them a try.  Just make sure you don't get any of the rod tip glue on yourself, that stuff gets hot!

Looks super easy. Does shortening the rod change the action much? I assume the rod will feel heavier action and be less sensitive?

It might change it very slightly but it's either that or not have it and be able to use it.

Yesterday WYCO gave me my first skunk there in a long time.

I did have 3 swipes at my umbrella rig, but no hookups.

Did not even catch a trout.
