Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Anybody know how LaCygne is this time of year? I’ve only been out there a couple times but never this time of year.

It can be good but I haven’t been since winter time.

I went this morning for the first time and had poor luck. Caught a small LMB in grass on the SW side but no bites anywhere along the dam or the inlet to the plant.

I saw you there, that was me in the Bass Tracker.  It was a bust for me too!  I got out of there and salvaged my day at Mound City.  The bite was pretty good until noon then it shut down.

They did not want moving baits but caught several on a Baby DBomb T-Rig and a Yoto worm Free Rig.  All bites were on standing timber.

Wife has been bugging me about trying new lakes so thanks for the info on Mound City. We decided to try Perry this weekend. We have a small (15') pontoon boat with only a 10hp outboard so we have to pick our spots carefully. I'm looking at the Rock Creek area specifically the area where highway 237 crosses. There is a nice looking ramp nearby and it looks like a nice compact area with lots of features. What say y'all? Would I be better off looking elsewhere or am I on the right track?

Thanks!

Anywhere a bridge crosses the lake at Perry is a solid starting point.

Don't bother with Perry Lake for a while. Army Corps of Engineers listed it as being low due to water release. When we got there the parking lot for the ramp was nearly fully under water and obviously the ramp was closed. USGS showed it at 8 feet over full pool height of 891 above sea level. This morning showing 901 so it raised another 2 feet over night. I knew it had rained quite a bit in the water shed for the lake but was still surprised it was that high. Went and played with the dinks at Lone Star and got soaked. Y'all have a great Independence Day but it won't be at Perry!

Fished Cedar Valley for the first time Sunday night for a few hours.  Didn't hook into many but I liked the lake and will definitely be back.  It was super hot and a lot of recreation boats and jet skis were out and about.

The Missile Baits Baby D-Bomb continues to shine when I need a bite.  Texas Rigged, pegged with a 1/8oz weight and owner 1/0 EWG pitching around brush and standing timber.  The lighter line on that setup hasn't failed me yet even when fish get caught up in the brush as long as I just lean back on them and try not to force anything they always seem to shimmy out.

Big fish came on a TRD... neds only catch dinks though 😉

Does anyone know of some lakes with a decent amount of vegetation? Been having a good time fishing grass but want to change up the lake. Seems like most of the bigger lakes around kc do not have much grass.

Bone Creek has a ton of vegetation of you're talking submerged grass. Same for Leavenworth State Lake. Olathe has a lot of water willows, so does Middle Creek. If you get the JOCO permit, Shawnee Mission Park and Lexington both have good amounts of vegetation. SMP is willows, Lexington has cattails, pads, and submerged grass.

Appreciate the help. Thanks for those tips a couple weeks ago, after you told me that it all fell into place for me. 👍👍

What are you all using for a mid-deep cranking rod? I like graphite, and I am having trouble finding a 7 1/2 ft cranking rod. I picked up a 7 5 Fenwick, but the reel seat doesn’t seem to work well with the curados I want to use on it. Looking at a dobyns champion cranking rod, but was hoping to not spend 250+. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

A couple different days on Mound in April.  Caught every fish on a bladed jig the first trip and most fish on a spinnerbait the second... two of my favorite ways to catch them.  Second trip was one of the slowest I've had on that lake but the one good fish made the trip for me.

Melvern has produced some nice smallies for me so far this year... Still chasing that 5lber out there though!!

I’ve only been to MC once this year a couple weeks ago but I did well. Caught my longest Kansas bass of the year so far with a 21” fish. Been to Melvern several times between tournaments and fun fishing. I won both tournaments I fished out there and was out there on Mother’s Day and caught several really nice fish on a tube.

MC is a lot of fun and when I don't feel like throwing a ned rig around Melvern that's a place I like to go... but it's always a risk that you might meet 12 other boats on that small lake during a tourney day.  Melvern has been pretty fun this past month between crappie and nice smallies.  Whenever I feel like ned rigging I head to Melvern lol.

Been to Cedar Valley a couple times in the past few weeks.  The first time was one of my best days on the water numbers wise, probably 40+ fish but didn’t realize my power bank was dead so I didn’t get any video.  Conditions were good and the fish read the script.

Went back today and had a pretty good day.  Not as good as a few weeks ago but I’ll take it.

They didn’t want the full size jig this time but downsizing to one of Clayton’s 1/4oz Micro Jigs was the ticket on half the fish and a shakey head for the other half.

Where do you currently fish, and what part of the KC area are you in?
