How is the water clarity at Mozingo typically?  Never been there and have a tournament there next weekend.

Haven't been there this year but have fished it several times before and the water is typically stained...not clear but not chocolate milk. 1 to 2ft clarity is typical.

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Melvern 4-23-16

Fished from about 830- 4 then went back out around 6 and fished til dark. caught 72 fish on the day. Majority were Smallies with 8 keepers being caught and two biggest were in the 17" range. weights were 2.65 , 2.71.  Still haven't caught that 4+ I've been hoping for all spring. Camped over night and woke up to 3-4' rollers and 20-30 mph winds. needless to say we loaded up and came home sunday morning.

Eureka lake 4-25-16

Water temps ranged 63-68 . Fish were being very picky but managed to boat 35+ fish. Biggest largie was 4.14 . Caught a PB Walleye that came as a complete shock as I set the hook the rod loaded up and fought like no walleye ever has before. 5.77 hog. Seemed like all the fish were on beds but every fish I caught was still holding eggs. red on the tails and belly so they were on the verge. Would of weighed just over 15# on the day. Still had fun although there are a lot bigger fish in that lake.

So you didn't catch any keepers? Melvern is 18" for both LM and SM, spots are 15".

Melvern is 18" for all 3 now.

Well apparently I need to be more specific for you then. Kansas tournament black bass pass for those who fish tournaments know what I'm speaking of: allow 2 fish per angler under 18" but over 15" to be weighed in. So when I say "Keepers" I'm referring to the over 15" that would be allowed to be weighed in. I'm well aware of the creel limits of the lake. As in any lake or those who fish tournaments know that a 15" fish is considered a keeper.

I'll be more specific next time

I get it, but most don't take bass pass into account when fun fishing.

If I can't put them in my livewell for pictures at the end of the day when I'm fun fishing I wouldn't consider them keepers. I want five 18+ in the box not two 15s. Although five brown fish over 18 at Melvern is possible, would be extremely rare.

Spotted Bass     18 inch minimum length limit went into effect Jan. 1, 2016.  This change makes all black bass (i.e. largemouth, smallmouth and spotted) have the same regulations at Melvern Reservoir.

thought I saw that somewhere, might have been on the special regulations at the ramp.  the website still does say this though:

Creel Length/Limits
Fishing Population Creel Limit Min Length Limit
Bluegill
Channel Catfish 10
Crappie 20 10
Flathead Catfish 5
Green Sunfish
Largemouth Bass 5 18
Smallmouth Bass 5 18
Spotted Bass 5 15
Walleye 5 18
Blue Catfish 5 35
Sauger 5 15

When Keith and I were there, I would say 2-3' by the dam and less the further north we went.  With all this rain, I would guess 1' max

Has anyone fished Council Grove (the small lake) at all recently? Heading up there this weekend for a few days. Planning on throwing the ned, jig and craw, maybe try and find a top water bite.... any advice would be great!

My fishing day Friday didn't go so great. Go the okay to leave early and fish later. Decided to go to Cedar Valley since the fish there should be used to muddy water. The lake was closed  No warning until I got right to the top of the parking lot, the gate was closed and locked there. Decided to go to Wilson since I was already half way there. It sucked, water was high and muddy and the fish just were not playing. I think we caught 8 in 2.5 hours. Decided to punt again with the intention of going to Pleasanton. As we were going across 54 I saw the sign for Bourbon State Lake and decided to call an audible. Lake was just over full pool since it had been way down. Water was a little muddy but not terrible. Missed a lot of fish but finally got on them pretty good fishing a beaver on a swing head. Highlight was Jacob catching his new PB off a laydown by the overflow, 5 1/2 pounds on the dot.

Thursday I went to SMP for 2 hours and did surprisingly well in the kayak.

Fished Melvern this morning from 7-12:30. Water level is very high(jetty by marina only about 6 feet out of the water.) Fishing was not great but we prob caught  25-30. Talked to another boat that had about the same luck

Packed weekend of guide trips as always grinding out Crappie, but wanted to share this one. Ran into a giant Clinton Smallie during one of my trips this weekend. Jig/plastic tipped with a minnow, almost took the guy's rod over the side as he set it down to take a drink. Jumped about 3-4 times, last one she could have easily jumped over one of us standing in the boat, probably 4-5 feet. Really fun one for this guy on ultralight gear. Biggest brown fish from Clinton I've had in my boat for about two years now. This was one of five accidental Smallies we had yesterday, among tons of green ones too.

Hey all, a buddy and I are looking to take Tuesday off to go bass fishing within a 1.5 hours from Lee's summit,mo?

What lake do you recommend, open to driving in any direction and I have a bass boat?

my buddy is just getting started with bass fishing so I would prefer a lake that has decent numbers over quality if I had to choose one.

thanks

With the high, muddy waters virtually everywhere, I'd recommend just going to Wolf Creek (Coffey County). That's usually a go-to with the conditions the way they are, as the lake level doesn't fluctuate much and can usually have pretty consistent success.

Thanks

Was the foam around the rod learned the hard way or just a great idea?
