Super User T-rig Posted June 7, 2007 Author Super User Share Posted June 7, 2007 Vyron, which lure where you using? I only seem to catch fish in the 1-3lb. range. Maybe I have to upsize my lures? Daniel, give them a shot with the largest topwater lures you can get. The type of topwater doesn't really matter - it could be popper, spook, muskie jitterbugs, whatever. If the area has large bass, and judging from your photos you know where to find the large ones, press them on. You might get fewer bites, but the results are worth it!!! I will try that! This is the lure I'm going to use on my next trip: Evergreen Amazon
island bassin
Buzzbaits always produce big bass for me. Smallest so far was 1.5kg. I didn't had the chance to use them much this year but they are definetly a big bass lure. I use terminator and booyah buzzbaits.
Super User T-rig Posted June 8, 2007 Author Super User Share Posted June 8, 2007 Well Cybasser, you were right about big lures! I went this afternoon to a spot and found some big bass cruising around some boats. I tried regular baits and lost a good fish of about 2kg late in the evening. I kept getting big bass following my lure but they would not take it. I took all my stuff and brought it to my car took a rod out of my trunk which had a Fish Arrow Flat Jack tied on and went back to same spot to make that famous last cast. It's almost 9pm by now and guess what, a big bass hits my lure and me without camera or scales! It's allways like that! When you do get that big one you have no camera with you! I estimate the fish was about 3,5 to 4kg! I was bigger then my PB of 3580gr. but I will never know for sure how heavy that fish was, all I now it was huge for around here! This is the lure which I caught it with:

One of these days I will come to Cyprus and catch that 5+kg right in front of you guys ;D ;D ;D! That fish must be the european record, right? The biggest bass that I have seen pics of came from Spain (Embalse de Guadalcacin) and weighed 4kg. exactly! I have heard of bigger fish beeing caught but have seen no proof! What is the european record (with proof)? Like I said, you guys are allways welcome over here!
Super User T-rig Posted June 10, 2007 Author Super User Share Posted June 10, 2007 I went for a walk with my wife and kids this afternoon and off course had to take 1 rod with me. We were walking around an area which haven't been to for a long time and managed to catch 2 bass! I did see some big one's around and I'm going to try the same spot tomorrow evening with some big baits and see if I can get one of those big fish. I will take my camera with me this time! Super User T-rig Posted June 18, 2007 Author Super User Share Posted June 18, 2007 I caught 6 fish this afternoon. All on topwater baits. Two dinks, one 2.4lber, two 4lbers. and one 5.1lber. While I was reeling in one of the 4lbers. another bigger bass grabbed the lure and for a while I was fighting 2 fish. The bigger one then came off. Man what a fight having a 4lber. and a about 5lber hooked the same time! Great fun! The 3 biggest all were caught in the same spot with the same bait! fish-fighting-illini
Hey t-rig is fishing in Switzerland an expensive hobby? A buddy of mine was from Germany and he said only the very wealthy their have boats of any kind due to high taxess and fees etc. Didn't sound like a lot of fishing went on in Germany as a result. Just wondering how Switzerland and maybe the surrounding countries measured up.
lubina
Very nice pics and fish.....congrats!!!!!!!
Super User T-rig Posted July 15, 2007 Author Super User Share Posted July 15, 2007 I usually beat the banks unless I rent a boat with some friends. Most people keep their boats at a dock all year and that can cost you up to $3000 a year! Any boat with engine larger the 8 horsepower needs a special license that can cost around $4000 (courses, exams etc.) Then there is insurance yearly taxes and who knows what else. Yea, it's all very expensive and I rather spend my money on tackle. You are not allowed to use any electronics on boats so even if you do have one, the fish are still hard to find. Just a fishing license costs $150 a year.
fish-fighting-illini
Ouch it can be expensive there. I've got a small 14ft jon boat with a 9.9hp. I paid a total of $800 for boat, motor & trailer. It's about $75 for the boat liscense and the trailer registration. A lot of us keep our boats at our homes many in our garages. A fishing liscense in the state of Illinois is around $14. That's about it for expenses except for insurance for the fancier boats. Many states don't have yearly taxes but some probably do.
Super User T-rig Posted July 15, 2007 Author Super User Share Posted July 15, 2007 Before you are "allowed" to pay $150 for your fishing license you have to take an exam. If you don't pass, no license. They only have these exams in spring (3 times) and if you don't pass, no fishing for you till next year! fish-fighting-illini
Man T-rig that is rough. What does the exam consist of? just fishing regulations? Learning about other cultures has always fascinated me. Hope I haven't hi-jacked your thread if I have I can start up a new one. Do you have to take the test every year? Does the exam have a fee too? fish-fighting-illini
I also forgot to mention that we put our boats in the water mainly via public boat ramps. You just back down to the water, unload you boat and park in a free parking lot. Some lakes have a daily/yearly fee but many are free.
