Lake El Salto Mexico?.

Considering your experience with fishing Mexico E_G, I would take your opinion along with Raul's as to where we should all consider going.  I am leaning towards El Salto personally, only because I hear the main lodge there is nice and the fishing is supposed to be good.  Maybe Raul can chime in here....

I had to cancel my May trip to El Salto, so I made my June trip longer. I will be on El Slto June 18th thru the 24th.

El Salto is still producing some very nice fish and is the easiest to get to by far with a very nice lodge. One of the better lakes for fishing your favorite techniques as there are all types of structure, underwater humps, long rocky points, etc.

We can get into Baccarac by private charter, which is more expensive, but you avoid the 3 hr van ride from Los Mochis. Baccarac may hold the big fish honors right now. Two lodges on the lake both with limited availability because of the current popularity .

I am telling you, Comedero is a sleeping giant. The van ride there sucks!!!!!!!, but is well worth it. Comedero is about the same size as Baccarac with very few boats on the water. Topwater bite is unreal as well as spinnerbait. Not my favorite place for plastics or cranks though. Many fish in the 8-9lb range.

El_Grande knows what he's talking about. I went with him to Comedero and we had a kick *** time. I agree with his above sentiments although I did do very well with plastic lizards ;)

i know the ride from mazatlan to el salto is a rough one once off the highway, i can only imagine what another hour or so on that road would be like (do you know how the safety situation near comedero is  right now e_g?)....you can deny how EPIC the bite there is though.  I really hate to say this... in my humble opinion el salto is a TAD overrated.  i did fish it twice in december with the biggest fish for two days of dawn to dusk fishing being 4 lbs.  dont get me wrong, id still go back.  although expensive, the food and service were fantastic.

I think there may be some propoganda going on concerning the safety issues around Comedero. At no time did I feel like I was in harms way, other than rounding some of those mountain bends on the road. Comedero is surrounded by mountains and farmers. Were there marijuana fields, yes. I only saw one that the army had burned down. I tried to put myself in the shoes of a first time Mexican Bass Traveller and still could not find a reason to be alarmed. Most of the negative things I have heard come from someone who has fished another lodge in Mexico. When I inquire as to where they heard the info, the response is usually from a lodge owner or second hand.

You drive right by the road to Chappy's to Comedero and then another 1 1/2 hours.

Duma, I forgot to follow up with your comment on El Salto. I agree, it is not what is once was. My last two trip there last year were not bad. My biggest was 8 and many 6's. I am very confident that the lake is a year away from where it was in 2004.

actually it was chappy that told me he didnt want to set up shop there for that reason... im sure there are a lot more factors to consider when youre opening up shop there than fishing it for a few days.  e_g do you know anyone down at sugar?  falcon is on FIRE right now as im sure everyone knows from the ridiculous sacks those guys are pulling out of there this week.  falcon and sugar combo trip (wow!)??  i know southwest flies into harlingen and one of the other major carriers flies into mcallen....just a thought.... e_g where are you? nw in.?

I am SW. About an 1 1/2 N of Evansville.

As far as what Chappy said, he would know much more than me. I really do not deal with anyone around Sugar Lake or Falcon. Yes the numbers are impressive, but less than average for Baccarac or Comedero right now for the average weekend fisherman. Put those Elite guys on either of the before-mentioned lakes and records would fall!

My first post so hello guys!

We fish Mexico every year in late feb, this year was Baccarac. In my opinion it the best lake mexico has right now.

The jig was the ticket for hawgs. We also just killed them on flukes and limited success w/topwater for this time of the year. We had a group of nine and averaged 70-100 bass per boat a day, largest going 13.3 lots of 5-8's some 9's & 10's.

As mentioned in an earlier post, spend the extra cash on the charter because I've taken that van ride and its not fun!!

We fished El Salto last year and had O.K. success but not nearly what we had at Baccarac.

Both have excellent accomodations and food.

American airlines has flights to MacAllen and Sugar Lake is a stone cast away.

Buyer Beware!!! Do your homework!

Ifishmexico.com and Ibassmexico.com are thieves.

Three friends and I booked a trip to El Salto through them for March of this year. They told us that they had to cancel our trip two week before we were suppose to leave and would refund our money. They have never returned our money and now won't return e-mails or phone calls. They recently updated their web pages so it looks like they are still out there trying to steal other fisherman's money. We made an expensive mistake by not doing our homework very well. I hope this post will save someone else.

NEVER, NEVER book a fishing trip to Mexico with ifishmexico.com or ibassmexico.com!

For you guys that were interested in a trip, I am going to Guerrero the day after Thanksgiving for 3 days. Just got back from El Salto last week. Checked on plane tickets for a November trip back to El Salto and they have doubled. So, I am taking my field staff with me to Guerrero for a few days. I think there is room for twelve and 4-5 of us are going as it stands now. Shoot me a PM and we can discuss the details.
