Maryland's Who's who!

I have not looked into the rules as far as putting a yak in but I'd like to do the same. It's about a 300 yard walk down hill to the water. Made a cart for my native so I'm game.

Has anyone fished that lake behind the other Walmart in Frederick?

I've fished it once with no luck. I've seen some bluegill in there but no sure what else may be in there.   :-/

I have only fished next to Walmart once also with no luck. I have heard good things though...I also know alot of ppl go for catfish there.

You are talking about up on RT 26 next to the boat ramp for the monocacy, right?  I have not, but I'm pond hopping with my brother tomorrow, and have considered giving it a go.

I have an Ascend 10' Angler from bass pro and I'm always looking for places to put it in at.  I normally take it out on the Potomac. I put in at Mouth of Mononcacy and just paddle out and fish the Potomac.

Got out for the first time on a boat on the Potomac. Got my first fish of 2015 and my PB smallie. Not a big smallie but I never get to fish for them.

I've never tried Urbana lake, can you put a kayak in there?

You cant put any water crafts in Urbana lake. Pretty decent lake for bass there stocking trout in it now. That usually fires the bass up. Lots of grass in the lake.

Urbana was 80% iced out still this morning.

Tried a pond in Green Farm Conservation park (39.174336, -77.167829) in Gaithersburg for the very first time.  Very remote place, just saw one person walking by with a dog.

Water was very low and muddy, but managed to catch couple dinks on mojo rigged Zoom finesse worm.

There are two ponds in the park, but only tried one of them.  Will need to make couple more visit to see if this place is worth the trip.

Has anyone else fished this park before?

Went out to Black Hills this morning. Didn't catch anything, but an otter has taken up residence by the the stick ups. It's not completely thawed out yet but another week should do it.

I know there use to be a pair of river otters that make their way into Black Hills during high water periods. I caught wind of that info after taking a tour there 2 years ago. The otter you saw Ken MAY be "just visiting".  :)

I hope so Sean. There was only one but he was pretty big. He was checking me out and grunting at me for a few minutes until he got tired and figured out I didn't know what I was doing.

Wow, the matted grass is getting really deep in here.

Wow I totally thought you all were joking about the otters! I had no idea we had those in this region of the country. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the update Ken.

Last I heard from park management the boat ramp should be open the upcoming weekend.

Seen an otter in elkorn lake a couple of months ago it was pretty neat watching it swim around they are fast!

And a forecast of 39 degrees and a rising barometer on Sat. I think I'll leave the kayak in the backyard.

Sunday is going to be 51, but I'm guessing the water temp at Black Hill is still to low to pound the bank from shore.  I'll see if I can get out and hit some ponds and give Black Hill another week.  I'm itching to get the kayak in the water, but in 2 years I haven't tipped it yet, so I'm still a little worried about falling into 45 degree water.  I really need a friend with a real boat.  My brother still hasn't renewed the tags on his trailer for his Jon boat.

Any idea what the water temp is?

No idea on water temp, haven't heard anyone fishing there yet except Ken.

I may run down there on Sunday. I'm still up in the air of where I want to get out to.  Really wanting to get some smallmouth action in, but I'm not sure what this rain Thurs. will do to the water on the Potomac. I'm kayak bound so I'd rather not fight the river if it's up and running faster than normal.  I may try shore fishing at the Mouth of the Monocacy or maybe give Dickerson a try.  I could always check out the canal while I'm there.  I know for the Potomac at the Monocacy the MD side is pretty shallow, but if we get some rain and muddy it up, it might bring them into the shallows.  Just below the Monocacy is about the only location to fish that part of the river from shore.

If I do hit up Black Hills I'm thinking my best option from shore might be under and around the bridge.  As long as my wife doesn't get any more clients Sunday, I'll be out getting a line wet somewhere.
