One of the best meals I have ever had.

Took the girlfriend to dinner last night.  We could not decide where to go so flipped a coin between an asian "fusion" restaurant and Morton's Steak House.  Mortons won.

Since I've been doing so much fishing lately, I really wanted to spend a nice evening with my girlfriend Guille.  She gets up at the crack of dawn to make me fresh egg and bacon sandwiches, packs incredible lunches for me AND my fishing buddies when we go, and even makes us snacks so we can have stuff to munch on when we eat.  She is a Godsend.

We sat down at the bar while our table was being prepped.  Nice bar, great service.  She ordered a Cadillac margarita, on the rocks, salt with Don Julio Anejo Tequila.  She knows her stuff!  I ordered a Mojito.  We were off to a good start. :)

Our table was ready, we sat down and I ordered a bottle of  04 Caymus "Special Select".  One of my favorite cabs right now.  I had the waiter decant the wine to allow it to breathe.  We also ordered the Collosal Shrimp appetizer, Tuna tartare, and Bleu Cheese Fries.  Those were especially good!  The Collosal Shrimp looked like baby lobsters....

For our main courses Guille had the grilled salmon and I had the Ney York Strip steak, medium rare.  This was without a doubt one of the best steaks I have ever had.  It was cooked to perfection, juicy beyond compare, and the flavor was just incredible.

I have to tell you that this was one of the most decadent meals I have ever had.  I have eaten at many "fancy" restaurants that are all show and have mediocre food at best.  Morton's is the real deal.   Oh and by thw way, we left no room for dessert, but I certainly left with a big smile on my face.  :)

mmmm....steak

I can second that!!  bacon and egg sandwiches, 4:30am,....what a trooper :)  (she keeps Robert in line too;)  ::))  She even made lunch for the guys in the other boat that we said "might" be out there, lol.

Robert, what was that drink we got into before I left?  the ones we made at the house?

Glad you had a great meal but when you get here,......those collosal shrimp won't look like lobsters,..they'll BE lobsters ;)

No meal tops a New England Lobster Boil baby!!!

Just the same,....Fluke,...I'll finish those oreos if you're done with 'em :)

I appreciate your honesty:

She "even makes us snacks so we can have stuff to munch on when we EAT."

Sounds like one of my "fishing" trips ;D

I forgot about that!  It wasnt the first time she did that either.

Those drinks were capirhinia's bud.  Made with Brazilian rum.  d**n.  I think I'll go make one now. :)

For anyone unfamiliar with a Mojita, this could become your next Favorite Drink. For those that go Clubbing, this is the ticket: light and refreshing!

Morton's Steak House

A fine choice!!

Y'all had a great time Robert!

Our son just had his 31st birthday.  He chose Ruth Chris's for him, his wife and their party of ten.  When I asked him about it, he said that this was the best "steak house" meal he had ever enjoyed and that in his opinion, it was better than Morton's.  Might give them a try if there's one in your area.

That's my favorite as well. We have both in the area. Morton's is excellent. Ruth's Chris is out of this world

I wish there was a green jealous smilie because I would use it.

You know I have been to both.  In all honesty Mortons wins out in my book, maybe the local Ruth's isnt as good as yours.

I 've been to many places in my life, but the best steak I 've ever had in my life was at a small italian restaurant in StLouis, MO 6 years ago, don 't ask me the name of the restaurant cuz I forgot it and I don 't travel to St Louis like everyday to remember it ya know, maybe Gman can do a little scouting for us one day and tell us the name of the restaurant  ;).

It was a fillet about 1 1/2 thick covered with cheese and a mix of mushrooms & chips of bacon, holly s*t ! the meat was so tender you could cut it with the fork, perfectly seasoned and the blend of cheese, steak, mushrooms & bacon chips was out of this world to taste. One of my wishes before I die is going  to St Louis again and go to that restaurant in particular to have another one of those steaks.

My father liked his steaks really rare.  I took him to a steak house in Louisville, Kunz's the Dutchman, one time.  When the waiter asked Dad how he wanted his steak cooked Dad responded, "You just lead it in here.  I'll knock it in the head."

Cooking a steak properly has to do with the cut of meat and the chef; the best I've ever ate was a ribeye cooked by Ricky Perioux owner of Pat's of Henderson Lake Charles. Louisiana. Now I must admit this was cooked on an outdoor pit at my camp on Toledo Bend

As far the Mojita you can keep it, I'll take a Southern Mint Julep especially one made with a Tennessee sour mash bourbon, such as Jack Daniels.

Catt, Catt, Catt...   You can't make a proper mint julep with that inferior Tennessee whiskey.   ::) It has to bourbon.  Marse Henry Watterson had the only really good recipe for a mint julep, "Pluck the mint gently from its bed, just as the dew of the evening is about to form upon it. Select the choicer sprigs only, but do not rinse them. Prepare the simple syrup and measure out a half-tumbler of whiskey. Pour the whiskey into a well-frosted silver cup, throw the other ingredients away and drink the whiskey."

Of all places probably the best all around meal was at a Holiday Inn at Augusta Georgia. I had blackened New York strip for the first time. It was the best I've had in the 20 yrs since. Even the cracker dip was good. I asked for the dip recipe it was cream cheese mixed with chedder ch bits and had beer in it. The guy wasn't kidding I've made it since it it is pretty close.

Maybe next best was last winter in St Louis at Hannigans. The chicken was had a sauce on it and was excellent and very affordable. The potatoes were great as well as nice salads. The place was very eye appealing not to mention having a piano player that played and sang some interesting songs. I think the dinners were $10 a piece. Even the 8 yr olds liked the piano player.
