Living as a refugee in Nashville

Featured Replies

WOW! I don't know how to explain the chaos this ice storm has caused. I've never seen anything like it. Western Ky. is like a scene out of horror movie. I toughed it out for a few days but, I finally found refuge in Nashville. Feels good to be back in civilization. Finally got my cell phone back and internet service. Me and all of mine is fine. Hopefully I find my house and stuff is still there when I get back. :-/

Man! I feel for you my friend. I was talking to a neighbor today about this. Back in '91 we had a bad Ice Storm in Memphis and we were without power for about a week. Would really hate it if was without power that long and then hear on the news "could be several more weeks"!

CJ, welcome to the club.  An ice storm has to be seen and experienced to understand the awesome damage that can occur.  On the flip side of the coin is the amazing beauty of ice covering flowers shrubs and tree branches.

CJ if you need anything feel free toPM me

Hey, I know where you are coming from, CJ. I am in eastern Kentucky and we got it bad too.  I walked out on my porch Wednesday night and could hear trees breaking and falling.  We were lucky in that we never lost power but there were several around us that did.

That was the biggest storm I have ever seen on radar and it moved so slowly.

I am glad to hear you are alright.

Glad you and yours are well.  Don't worry about your things at home it is just "STUFF".  Stuff can be replaced.  You have moved the important things out of harms way.

You were in my thoughts from the time I heard what you were getting down your way.

We got 1" snow, 1 1/2" ice, 5" snow, 1/2"ice, and 2" snow.  This is about 2 1/2 hrs N. of you.  We never lost power.

Anything I can do PM me.

Kelley

Hey Bud, I'm out of town but will be back late Sun....I'll give you a call, if you are still in town you got a meal and anything else you need.

I know how ya feel back in December I lost power for a week and a half roads were terrible trees and powerlines were down all over the place. Good to hear you're all okay

We got 8-9" of snow out of that storm.  I'm just glad it was snow and not the ice you guys got.  Keep the faith CJ.  It should all be melted by this weekend.  Good luck to you and yours.

Good luck. I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

TheBeast and I went to Jackson Thursday night, ran into a guy from Lexington who's car was covered in ice.  We had to chip away the ice on the car so the guy could open the gas cap.

Trees covered in ice, quite interesting.

Thanks guys. I got a call from back home and my power is back on! I'm letting a few of my friends stay at my place beens I'm paid up through Monday morning.

Electric and water are like air, they're no big deal until you don't have them.

I had to evacuate because I couldn't stand another candlelit dinner. Too romantic for me... LOL

Wimps,...buy a generator, we deal with this stuff all the time. lol  just kidding

Glad all is well, hope everything gets back to normal soon :)

Man I feel for all of you. We went 11 days without power during hurricane Ike but it was warm. Gotta be extra tuff with it freezing outside. Good luck and god bless to all of you.

Unfortunately, these kinds of storms show us just how vulnerable we all are when interruptions of this sort occur.

Glad things are looking better for you. Yes, the ice storms are miserable.  We didn't have power for over a week when we got hit several years ago.  The first few days were kind of cool - staying by the fire, cleaning out the freezer - we had steaks for breakfast.  But, the novelty QUICKLY wore off for the wife by the third day, which means it wore for me as well.  Was glad to see those lights come back on and take a shower.

Also, check your trees around the house.  We learned that the ice storm weakened a lot of trees and branches, but, they didn't come loose or got hung up in other limbs/trees.  Some strong winds came through about a week later and did some damage in the area.  We had a big 10" dia x 10' long pine branch fall about a week later during some strong wind that missed our outside AC/heat pump by inches.  I noticed it hanging/caught in the tree after the storm but didn't do anything about it.  Lesson learned.

CJ ain't the only one !!!

Niksfishinmom and I are on day 5 without power ..... been driving about 45 miles to get WIFI service. We have too many animals to just up and leave. It will be quite some time before there is anything normal around here. Little bits are coming back on, but estimates are for several weeks to over a month for some areas. We are hopeful that our power will be restored soon.

We wish the best to everyone that has been affected.

Hope you and Deb are okay.

I pray for all effected by this storm. We got the snow end of things. A couple of year ago we had the ice similar to what KY and those areas got. I know what you're going thru. IT SUCKS!  Hope all goes well and everyone has good health.

Like ejtaylor822 said. Be mindful of those trees. You will see evidence of this storm for years to come.

Hope you and Deb are okay.
