Need something new

Featured Replies

I've been fishing an absolutely fantastic farm pond for the past 2 years and the fish are finally starting to wise up to my tactics.  I've been pulling in 2-7 pounders regularly on weightless senkos and 3/8 oz jigs with various trailers.  Right around dusk they are also jumping on topwater plugs.

The last couple of times out the bite has been a lot slower.  I'm thinking that it is time to try some new baits.  There is lots of open water and on one end there is some HEAVY cover.  What are your suggestions for new baits for me to throw?

Crank baits.

the one thing that i truly suck at!!  I just never catch fish on them.  I own a ton and have read all the posts and articles on this site - i've thrown square billed ones into cover and bounced them off of it, but no matter what i try i just don't seem to have any confidence in them.  i won't give up though.

For a farm pond I would start throwing some soft plastic frogs.  Horny Toads are OK, but Cane Toads by Gambler work much better for me.  I do buzz them on top, but also love to let them sink.  I rig them weightless.

If they are accustomed to the subtle presentation of soft plastics, I would try to noisy, annoying cranks.
