wagon wheel is one amazing song.

I'm intrigued, who's the artist?

old crow medicine show

James river blues is a great song

I like all the OCMS love going on here. Definitely one of my favorites. The new stuff is hit or miss with me, but to keep it concise and name my favorite country artist: Alan Jackson

I grew up listening to country only because my dad loved it so much (still does). I heard all the oldies you can think of - Hank Snow, Jimmy Rodgers, Johnny Cash, Merl, Waylon, Jim Reeves, and just about anything you can square dance to.

I hated it....and still do. ;D

Sorry, but I was a rocker as soon as I hit my teens...well, actually, ok, anything that wasn't country I listened to (yes, even new wave :P ). But now I like the new country - anythng newer than say 2000, except I do like some 90's stuff like Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Dwight Yokum. But if it's got too much twang (like George Straight), or is about a divorce, then I change the channel. ;D

so are Down Home Girl, New Virginia Creeper, Big Time in the Jungle, Raise a Ruckus, My Good Gal, That'll be a better day, Don't Ride that horse...pretty much all of the earlier stuff.

Much like you, I grew up listening to country music because of my dad. Like you I hated it. I hated it with a passion! I got into mostly metal and punkrock for most of my teenage years. I still love all of that stuff even now that i'm in my early 30's. For some reason about 3 years ago I heard a Hank Williams song and as much as I hated it as a kid, suddenly It brought me back to my childhood. I now love country music, but not the new pop country. I just can't listen to that.

During the 50s, when my dad took me hunting, the only thing playing on early-morning car radios

was "western music" (the term 'country' music came later). We listened to singers like

Shorty Warren, Rusty Draper (muleskinner blues) and Carl Perkins (blue suede shoes).

When I entered my teens, I grew up during the Be-Bop' era with names like

the Temptations, Platters, Four Aces, Five Tops, Five Satins and so on.

All the same, I like most every genre of music, as long as the music is good.

I'm partial to individual songs rather than to any category or artist. To me for instance,

some of Skynyrd sounds like Pink Floyd and Marty Robbins only made one El Paso.

Rather than hardcore western laments (whining), my favorite country stuff are the upbeat songs:

Second Chance (38-Special)

You're Still The One (Shania Twain)

When My Ship Comes In (Clint Black)

Play a country song backwards once, you get your house back, your money back, your women back.....

So if I like rock and new country does that make me just a rock fan :-?

Seyone, glad to see someone else mention Coe.

DAC is the man.

I enjoy quite a bit of the newer music, depending on the subject.

Like most have mentioned, you can't really beat Waylon, Hank, Merle, Charlie and Johnny.

Don Williams

Good Old Boys Like Me is just about my favorite song of all time

Tom T. Hall was also one of my favorites because he could tell a great story with a song like The Year Clayton Delaney Died

But, to me you can't beat Eric Church. He is awesome. His live shows are the best. I love country music.

Good man. My favorite country artist.

I like the old and the new.

im not a country fan but i like Johnny Cash.

if CCR and String Cheese Incident are considered country, ill add them to the list.

Both the hanks, Paycheck,Haggard before he turned into a hillary supporter,Waylon (my all time favorite) and Cash. I like it if it is before Pre-bent cowboy hats and pucca shells.
