Hemorrhoids

Recommended Posts

Have you ever had them or know what they are?  I gave birth to what was comparable to a  20 pound pumpkin with thorns.

No itchy or burning sensation, but my rear end ACHES something terrible.  Can't hardly walk, much less sit down for the past 10 hours. Something feels swollen inside there. Could it be a hemorrhoid?

It was quite embarrassing asking the pharmacist if I should get Preparation H, with or without aloe.  No way I can go to the doctor.

No way I can go to the doctor.

Because you are physically unable to due to access or some other limitation, or because you don't want to? I think your doctor could probably offer the best advice, unless that is truly not an option- In which case I would use ice, avoid lifting heavy objects, try to manage your stools (avoid constipation) and use an OTC cream.

Disclaimer: Keep in mind I am not a health provider and this advice should not be taken as the advice of a professional, these are simply some things I read and have seen work for others.  If at all possible, you really should consult your doctor for the best advice.

I know what they are, and that ain't them.  Go see a doctor pronto, or maybe even a trip to the ER.  You may have some internal bleeding going on.

Too embarrassing for a hemorrhoid.

I have rare, periodic bouts of severe rectal pain.  It generally comes on gradually.  The intensity and duration varies.   The attack can last from a few minutes to an hour or so.  The sensation of needing to have a bowel movement usually accompanies the episode.

Never had one last ten hours.  I'd be in the ER long before it lasted ten hours.

I spoke to my doctor about it several years ago.  He said it is fairly common, and in most cases not the result of something serious, such as cancer.  I have had regular colonoscopies since I was fifty.

Apparently there is no clear understanding of what causes it, or how to prevent it.

The pain can be likened to a combination of an abcessed tooth and a severe cramp.  It can be a sharp, or a dull pain, sometimes both.

My best advice is to get over the embarassment, and talk to your doctor.  Embarassment about ailments of taboo body parts can be a killer, literally.  I lost an uncle who was diganosed with bowel cancer and refused to have a coloscopy because it was too embarassing.

Probably too much information, but there you have my experience.

Here's a good site for basic info.  You can google "rectal pain" for more.

Go see a Doctor !

My wife has been battling them well over 20 years, just had had about 4 or 5 large ones removed, popular method is rubber bands.  Not nearly has painful as you may think, the bands cut the blood flow and the hemorrhoids just pop off..........it's no big deal, if that is what it is.

Thanks for the advice.  I have a gastroentologist that did my colonoscopy.  I will call them when they open if the pain doesn't go away.

LOL, I came home from work tonight with a tube of Preparation H and asked the wife if she would be so king to apply it for me.  She said, without hesitation, "if you need me to I will." God bless her, she's definitely a keeper. I didn't let her though.

Bassn, stop trying to treat the problem yourself.

GO SEE A DOCTOR.

LIKE YESTERDAY.

Medical people see things that bother and embarrass us so it is no big deal to them. This is what they are trained to do and treat.

You could have a cancerous tumor or a benign growth.

Either way, take care of it NOW.

NOT TOMORROW. TODAY.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.  :(

I had something similar to that a few years back and i self diagnosed it as internal hemorrhoids. The pain after every bowl movement would linger for hours and it didn't matter if you were standing up or lying down the pain would buckle your knees.I tried lying in the bath tub in hot water which would bring temporary relief but as soon as you got up on your feet the pain would come shooting back.I tried just about every over the counter hemorrhoid treatment i could find and the only thing that helped me was taking an aspirin for when the pain was bad and taking a couple herbs i looked up on line ,one was called horse chestnut and the other was called butchers broom, these two herbs are what worked for me .The herbs took a few days to bring relief but this and adding fruits and vegetables and  a lot of water to avoid constipation is what did it for me.

I hear you on the reluctance to go to the doctor. I HATE it, completely hate it.

That being said, you like me need to get over it. The ladies since they are teens get thrown up in stirrups and poked and prodded in by docs. Now if you have had kids (I have 4) then your lady has had to go through a set of exams that are not going to compare to what you go through.

it is a medical condition like anything else, just happens to be in an embarrassing place.

Good luck man!

I've had hemorrhoids on two occasions, and neither time did I "give birth" to anything.

Get this checked out pronto.

They were one of the first signs before I got diagnosed. I have them so bad along with other things I'm anemic. Don't mess around because they only get worse...

Oh yeah, I do know what they are, varicose vein(s) on the rectum and bun hole

I gave birth to what was comparable to a 20 pound pumpkin with thorns

Yup, that 's how it feels when they are swollen, I know that the particular one I 've got isn 't THAT big but I swear, in my imagination I have this vision of my rear end looking like the rear end of a friggin baboon.

I hope it clears up on it's own, but you should really see a doctor to make sure it is not anything chronic or serious.

Yep. Get it checked out. If it is hemorrhoids, the doc can write you a prescription for suppositories that have cortisone in them that offer quick and long lasting relief.

Take it from someone who knows.

how's the grapes?

Here's my update, if anyone cares to hear it ;D

I used the Preparation H before going to bed and woke up feeling better.  Not totally better, but better.

That night, I had to go #2 and it was like ripping a scab off.  Believe me, I DID NOT want to go.  Used the medicine again a few more times and all seems to be getting better as the days pass.

I think I figured out what was wrong, aside from being extremely constipated.  I had gone for a stress test and they injected me with a radioactive dye.  I believe the injection caused me to be unusually constipated, thus causing me to overly push and develop a hemorrhoid.  Anesthesia can and will cause your bowels to get all messed up.

Thanks for all the concern and I still plan on going to the doctor just as a precaution.
