Dan:

new nasal spray with an interesting ingredient.

Recommended Posts

I've been having trouble with nasal congestion in the past couple weeks. I decided to try a nasal spray. I got generic Afrin and it worked like a charm. The only problem was I had to use it twice a day or I couldn't breathe out of my nose. Well, then I came to find out about "rebound congestion" where apparently if you use Afrin for more than a few days you get uncontrollably stuffed up if you don't use it.

So instead of becoming dependent on nasal spray I decided to try something without that chemical. At CVS they had this spray called "Sinus Busters" that doesn't have the chemical that is in Afrin. Instead, its active ingredient is capsaicin. Yes, capsaicin that you spray in your nose.

So I tried it out. WOWZA! That woke me up!

So far, not working as well as Afrin which pretty much gave me a completely clear nose within 2 minutes but it has been helping to clear my nose. I figured a mild pepper spray would work a little better.

Yea, about once a year, when I get a cold, and all stopped up, I buy a bottle of Afrin. Works great to clear my sinusus while I am sick.

So, 4 or 5 days later, when I'm feeling much better with the other symptoms, my bottle of Afrin runs out and I'm instantly stuffed up. But since I feel better otherwise + since I'm usually too lazy or busy to go buy another bottle, I just deal with it for 2 or 3 days, and then I clear up again.

I did know one guy though, who was addicted to nose spray for 14 years !!! Finally, he had some kind of surgery on his sinuses, which opened them up permanently.... But it was a brutal surgery, that left him in a lot of pain, and two black eyes for weeks !

No thanks.

Try eating an onion, or eating something with a lot of pepper on it.  Usually opens my sinuses right up.

I had same problem and doctor said I have allergies that causing my nose to swell up inside that makes me congested. I just started getting allergy shot once a week. I only feel congested when I do physical activity outside.

I've had some really hot, hot wings that made my nose run. Try juicing your nose spray up with some habanero. :D

I just use the natural saline spray to unstuff it. Messy, but it works.

I'm sure it worked for you. I've been sprayed a few times at work and it's amazing how well you can breath after you get sprayed, but man that's a heck of a way to clear your stuffed nose up!

A question for my fellow sprayers: How do you apply the product?  Bottle right side up, and spray?  Bottle horizontal, and stream?  Or, bottle upside down, and drip?

I've been streaming it for the past couple of days, then tilting my head back until it runs down my throat.  Is that how it's supposed to be done?  Any input would be appreciated.  I need some nasal relief!

If it's a stream, I hold the bottle horizontal. If it's a mist, I just hold the bottle straight up and down.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING clears my sinuses like horseradish.

Try some straight wasabi once. Same effect only 10x stronger.

If it is allergies go get a product called Luffeel Nasall Spray:

http://www.zooscape.com/cgi-bin/maitred/GreenCanyon/questp418730

I think you can find it cheaper, I just gave you this site to give you can idea of the product.  I have chronic stuffy nose and itchy eyes.  Have had them since I was a kid, and this product has helped me tremendously.

If it is a Sinus issue then give this a try:

My chiropractor turned me onto this stuff during the fall when I always get the drainage and sore throat thing going.  It has worked wonders as well.

Both are all natural and homeopathic.  Just my two cents.

Both of those products are great, especially if you care about what you put in your body. Theres an herb or naturopathic remedy for everything, and they contain no chemicals or harmful additives.

20yr Afrin user here  :o  Yes,I know,,it's crazy, but it's the only thing that helps me. I have been to many doctors, allergists, but no one helps me to where I feel comfortable. What I was going to recommend to you is a Sinus rinse. Neil Med makes one that uses a squeeze bottle. A Neti Pot is another way to go. You aren't a lifelong case like myself,so something like I mentioned may help you out alot.
