Waxing Spinnerbait Blades?

Featured Replies

I have some spinnerbait blades that are tarnished and some are corroding.  Is it advisable to use auto wax to shine them up or is that a bad idea because of the scent it would leave behind which would repulse the bass?  Shiny blades = more fish but do smelly blades = less fish?

Thanks,

Bumfish

Welcome aboard!

Shine 'em up, replace the blades or...

Get some new spinnerbaits is probably

the best answer.

I use Ketchup on mine.

Most of the blades I do have are not used even once. I have several that are my goto baits, but the unused ones are lonely and ugly. My main question is, does car wax leave a scent on the blades that would deminish my catch ratio.  Lord knows I don't need any help with that.

No.

Spinnerbaits trigger a "reaction" bite. Scent is not a factor.

Toothpaste and a brush

It's not hard to replace blades, and they are inexpensive, I would just replace them.

Oh, by the way, welcome to the best fishing site on the net.

I've heard of using tooth paste but never ketchup!

Wax reduces water friction and I would think that waxing the blades would make them more difficult to get spinning.

Never tried toothpaste, I have always used chrome polish. I will definitely try toothpaste because it's cheaper.

Welcome! If you go to Bass Pro Shops website and search spinnerbait blades you will find 14 items. Doing the same at Cabela's will get you 48. So, there's lots to select from. Good luck.

You could always soak them in coke. I know it will remove battery acid. But if you have a buffing wheel take them to the buffer. You will be getting them so shiny that you will go blind looking at them.

Wouldn't it be the opposite, since they have less surface resistance but the cup of the blade actually gets it to spin... I'd think they would actually start spinning earlier or run even slower. (not enough to feel, though) :-?
