I'm sure you're not the only one mad. What do you recommend BASS do? Drop their title sponsor? Then what?

I think about this every time they mention the "Mad Venezuelan" on the news.  I'm not sure what to do about it, but I guarantee Citgo gets none of my business despite their BASS sponsorship.

I just hope the White House maintains its present position and refuses to comment on the speech indefinitely.  I get mad that the press treats Chavez and Ahmadinejad as equals to President Bush as if there is some kind of moral equivalency or that they are equals in world stature.  Ridiculous!  Compare the coverage of the Chavez speech with that of Premier Krushchev and the shoe incident in 1960.  Back then, the press had a sense of right and wrong as well as patriotism.  I don't care what anyone says.  Things were better back then (and I was born in 1970).

Not to rain of the citgo bashing parade or anything but what exactly are we supposed to do here.   We don't exactly have a made in the USA oil company that we can buy oil from.  We probally do have one who knows anymore but I don't know of any   We buy oil from people who want to kill us yet we are so ignorant we just keep buying and supporting them.  I wonder how much goods did we trade with japan or Germany during WWII

Bassnut has a point.  Every time we fill up our tanks we are financing terrorists.  It's a really sick joke if you think about it.  I can avoid Citgo because they own the retail stations as well as the oil fields.  At least if I buy my gas somewhere else, I can remain blissfully ignorant of where the money goes.

I just got an e-mail from Steven Yates of BASS.  He sayes BASS and citgo have mutually agreed to end sponsership at the end of 2006.  I thinks it's a great thing.

ya but theres is no way around buying gas unless u have an electric which i cant afford to buy a new car anyway we have no choice  :-/

I work in the oil industry and the perception of "oil business" by the GP is way skewed thanks to some of the great news media we have out there. #1 thing to know is that we import a little over half the petro products we use in the US from neighbors (mexico and canada) and this is on the rise. Less and less oil is coming from the middle east and south america and so on into this country all the time. Oil ans gas prices were high and are on the fall, so this makes overseas oil more competative with domestic oil because its more costly to get the stuff out of the ground in the US thank you B. Clinton and EPA. We are in a catch 22 we can use our own and pay more, or we can use theirs and pay less until somthin' blows up and then pay more (a special thanks to the market speculators) and wait till it goes down and somthin' blows up and then pay more...and so on. Id like to see valero or devon or anadarko or even BP hook up with BASS. These are all "AMERICAN" oils companies (even though BP is British Petroleum its HQ'D in Houston). The reason I use quotes there is because oil is a globally exchanged commodity and it doenst matter if you buy it from citgo, exxon, phillips, valero, shell, or whoever, if it gets pulled out of the ground it will be sold and used somewhere. If you dont buy from a citgo station, the gas you didnt buy wiil end up in someones tank somewhere, and the crude it was produced from will go somewhere. Gas stations get gas from the most logistically feasable source, so it really doesnt matter about the marketers name, only the market share that company occupies. P.S. i dont like the whole foreign oil dependecy deal either, but better to use theirs up first and ours later...and you would be suprised at how much more there really is in US territory than in the rest of the world-LOTS.

Does BASS HAVE to have a sponser in the oil business at all?

Do you know why they're not announcing it? I haven't seen anything on their site or some of the sites that cover pro fishing.

No, they don't. I have no inside knowledge, but I think they're looking for sponsors in any industry, within reason, who will pony up. It's the only way there is to raise payouts and/or lower entry fees.

My measly purchases will not effect CITGO, but I will NEVER do any business with them directly.

I've given quite a bit of thought to this subject over the last week or so.  I hope that BASS and Citgo are ending their relationship.

I just wonder who BASS will get to replace that sponsorship?

Anything I can do to keep him from getting any of my money, I'm going to do. I fished a tournament at Grand lake in Okla. this past weekend. After the tourney we headed home ,but needed gas, we drove right by a citgo but didn't stop. Hoping to make it to the next station I said I rather siphon gas out of the boat than give my money to that nut down there. We drove by that citgo all weekend to go to another station for our gas for the boat, ice, drinks, breakfast, etc. That aint sulphur Hugo, that my exhaust fumes you smell as I drive right by your gas station.

Hugo's a scumbag. I stopped wearing my Citgo Bassmaster hat a long time ago. While I try to avoid Citgo stations I am somewhat concerned about the privately owned mom and pop businesses that pump Citgo gasoline. These are our fellow hard working Americans that just happen to be selling the wrong brand. I'm not sure of the costs involved to switch petroleum suppliers. Imagine how much differently we would be able to deal with international affairs were we not dependant on some of these people for oil.

I'm in the same boat myself.  By boycotting citgo I'm also hurting the little guy who happens to be selling under citgo But what do you do

Seven Eleven just dropped Citgo this week, so the company as a whole is going to diminish significantly.  That's probably well over 2,000 stores, which serves probably 20,000,000 people.  The company may or may not be able to rebound from that.  The mom and pop shops will just sign contracts from some other seller.  There are several around here that went from Citgo within the last 2 weeks because of that incident.  One of the owners had to pay a breach of contract fine (and it's rumored that his new provider paid the cost for him) because of the switch.  Whether that story is true or not is one thing.  I just heard it from the lady that I was buying a Coke from.

As far as Hugo Chavez is concerned, I would really like to see some sort of revolution.  That would solve a lot of problems for the U.S. providing some certified psychopath isn't what takes over.  If he keeps it up, we all know how Bush will respond and I'll end up getting deployed there.  What's the weather there this time of year? ;D

I agree wish Brushpile Barrys thought on this. Bass doesn't have to use an "oil" company as a sponsor.  FLW and Walmart pretty much a marriage made in heaven being that the club and sponsor are one entity.  With BASS why can't it be Coca-Cola or Pepsi just to use as an example. there is plenty of big buisness out there willing to pump advertisement dollars into any means possible of getting their product placed.

I feel for the Mom and Pop places too.  If at all possible, buy your gas from someone else (where the profit margin for gas retailers is actually very low) and get your snacks, ice, sodas, etc. from the Mom and Pop store (huge profit margins on those items).  Just a thought.

Not buying from Citgo sends the nut in Venezuela a message.  Stay out of our politics and country.  Seven Eleven is dropping Citgo gas so something is coming from the limited boycott.

The japanese, who owns 7/11 have had 20 year contract with Citgo, that 20 years contract expired sept 2006.     Business end of it got better offers from other suppliers, its business and nothing else.

We get oil from Middle East , Africa, and South America, nothing good to say about any of the foriegn suppliers.

They all have opinions of Americans and our President.

Matt.

Matt Fly,

It's not what he's saying --it's what he is doing (financing terrorists).  Why can't you understand this?

I just copied my reply from the "B.A.S.S. and CITGO. would like opinions" thread.

CITGO is owned by the government of Venezuela correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If that's the case...CITGO and Chavez are one and the same.

I wonder what the reaction would be if it was called the "Venezuela Bassmaster Classic"? Because that's what it is right now. I'm willing to bet more people would be upset with B.A.S.S. and call for them to drop CITGO/Venezuela.

How many people applauded Ranger for dropping Ike after the Classic? Seems to me this is a bit more important than an angler going ballistic on camera. I highly doubt he is hated more than Chavez is. Although some really seem to hate Ike.

If Ranger doesn't need Ike and Ike doesn't need Ranger, why would B.A.S.S. need CITGO?

Ranger did the "right thing". Now it's time for B.A.S.S. to step up and really do the right thing.

It seems that I have to agree with mattfly here.  I'm not trying to tick anyone off but open up your eyes and look at all the countrys we do business with that hate us.  This is nothing new at all.  So why the big surprise about citgo.   Other leaders hate us just as bad but aren't stupid and mouth off about it.  They are smart enough to stay quiet and reap the rewards of us. Look at china hell were making there economy stronger evertyime you buy something that says made in china and look at all the jobs taken away from americans and sent to china.  I don't hear of anyone boycotting  RCA, GLoomis, Motorola all of which have products made in china.  I'm quite certain the Saudi Royal family appreciates all the wealth we have given them.  They hate us but just pretend they like us because where making them even richer.  Stop buying oil from them and they will be calling for Jihad aginst us.    What this boils down too in a round about way is we need to do more than just boycott  BASS and Citgo.  We need to elimnate any trade with any country that runs there mouth off at us or threatens us, and steals our jobs away with low paying almost slave labor competition on product manufacturing.  Chavez isn't any different than any other country that hates us he just trying to make a name for himself and possably get more allies that agree with his dumb A@@.    BASS and Citgo is only a small peice of the crap pie

You think Citgo is the only gas station is the US with possible ties to terrorists?  OR HAS PUT THE BAD MOUTH ON THE PRESIDENT.    I keep it simple, because I haven't seen any press on Chavez's link to blowing up soldiers yet.   I know you will provide those links for me as you have claimed to have knowledge of.

I think there are convience stores and all kinds of forgiegn run business that funnel or launder money for terrorists in america.

42% of our oils are currently shipped in, 3 places where we get our oil is from Africa, Middle east, and South America.

Pick your poison, which one?     I see the big picture, I have been to the big picture in the sand on more than one occassion.     Which money trail do you want to chase first?

You assumed and that is wrong on your part for what I know and print.   You can assume you have the big picture in grasp, but others on here who have been members awhile will tell you I don't carry and empty chamber when it comes to printing facts.

I love intelligent debates, so please keep it civil and intelligent.      I'm a new grand pa and trying to mellow with age, please help me achieve this easy goal.

Matt.
