Favorite jigs

Featured Replies

I'm wanting to get better with my jig fishing this coming year, seeing as they are pretty much the only lure I have 0 confidence in.  I have 100 bucks of Christmas money for *** and I'm buying some.  Any suggestions?  I am looking at the evolution jigs (heavy cover and finesse).  How about for trailer options as well?  Thanks in advance everyone!

Eakins Jewel jig 5/16oz in GP, black or brown are a finesse jig and catch a lot of fish. Trailers I use different ones but the 3 main ones are Zoom super chunk/jr, Paca craws and Zoom creepy crawler double tail grubs.

The choices.....

Buy the Spro K-Finesse Jig on T.W. or......

Sell the gift card and stock up on Gman jigs  :D

Evolution or Terminator jigs if I can get them on a good sale.

GMAN's jigs when I can't.

buy a few footballs for rocks, eakins for all around and some grass jigs.  That way your set up.

Best all around color.  Black/blue for me.

Clear water  PBJ

1/4-3/8 for light line, clear or shallow water

3/8-1/2 is best all around size.

My opinions on jigs

Best heavy cover: Oldham's Lures Trailer Hitch Jig

Best Hook: O. Mustad & Son A.S. Model 32796BLN straight shank round bend in 4/0 or 5/0

Top colors: Black-N-Blue, Black Neon, Black Neon/Brown/Amber

Weights: ¼, 3/8, & ½

My opinions on trailers

Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws

Zoom Swimmin' Chunk & Salty Pro Chunks in sapphire blue

Uncle Josh #11A Original Chunk & #23 Kicker Frog in blue

Rage Tail Lobster in colors to match jigs

My opinions on rattles is that I find them to be unnecessary but on the rare occasion that I use one it will be either Strike Kings Pro Model Jig or Lunker Lures Original Rattleback Flipping Jig

My opinions on rods

Length: 6' 10 to 7'

Lure: 3/8-3/4

Power: Medium Heavy

Action: Extra Fast

My opinions on line

Braided for matted vegetation or Buck Brush

Berkley Big Game for everything else

to build confidence, definately go with finesse jigs. id get maybe a small 1/4 jig with a 3" trailer.

bitsy bug jigs are cheap and great to start with. use a matching yum craw papi trailer.

I really like the Bass Patrol jigs. For two bucks you can't go wrong. For a  trailer I like the Berkley Powerbait Chigger. Good Luck

You'll also be getting a some of these shortly, Terminators,Evolution,Mann's, Bitsy's,Booyah's and Revenge :D

IMO, it's hard to beat Picasso and Revenge.

I fish water around 1-3feet deep, with 4-5feet deep being the deepest. This being said, my favorite jigs are Booyah Baby Boo's in 5/16 oz. And Eakins Ball head jigs 5/16oz.

Favorite Trailers; Paca Chunks, Ragetail Chunks.

Or Yum Chunks when im looking for a trailer with little action.

I think the 'Dandy' jigs have the best color selections, and are $2.89.  The Lunker Lure original Rattle Back is a bargain at $2.19; they use the pricier Gammy hooks which a lot of more expensive jigs don't use.

If you're a smallie hunter like myself, nothing beats a quality finesse jig.

My favorite being Strike King Bleeding Bitsy Jig.  Small profile, 1/4 ounce, and ofcourse S.K signature bleeding bait characteristics (red hooks, etc).

The Eakins Finesse Jig is another choice, but you can buy two or three S.K BBJ with the price of one of these.

You should try out the Jigs from Knuckle down Lures. They are made very well and at a good price. They also offer the living image skirt. A huge variety of skirt colors to choose from.
