Walmart vs. Dick's

Featured Replies

Don't have a Dick's near me...So Wal-Mart would be my guess.

Wal-Mart considering it's close. Only 15 miles but I do make a lot of trips to Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine Texas which is about 120 miles away!

What really makes me mad is that Wal-Mart, Dicks, AND bass pro shops all have a worse freshwater selection than the local tackle shop that i go to.  I hate living in a saltwater dominated area.

Dicks has a better selection of "QUALITY "merchandise. wal-mart probally has more "STUFF" though. I personally try to deal with anyone but walmart, since walmart put a few superstores in my area it has really hurt our local tackle shops and gun shops.I try to support locals first,if they dont have it then I go wherever I have to.

I only buy at WalMart if it is a last minute item or something I know they carry.  Our WalMart is getting worse every year as far as selection.  Lots of worms and flukes but no cranks and very little spinner baits.  I went to a Dicks in CT last year and they had a better selection than my WalMart so I would go with Dicks.

In Olathe Kansas Dicks has a much better selection than any wal-mart I have seen.  I don't make it to either one much because their's a Cabela's 15 min. away.

dicks by far have a better selction i just got back from the new dicks they just opened in jacksonville florida less then 2 weeks ago and they had 2 isles of plastics ( a vary good slection of my favort yamamoto baits) 2 isles of crank baits an isle of spinners and inline spinners a isle of top waters a isle of nothing but termanal tackle and a isle of fishing line plus a few hundred rod and reel combos

your lucky to go into walmart and find a quarter of what dicks has.....................

Don't do Dick or Wal-Mart.. We are lucky enough to have a couple of real tackle shops close by. Privately owned shops have better service and a better selection. If you want something they will get it for you. Try that Wal-Mart. They have no idea what you are talking about.

In my area Dicks is getting worse all the time. Seems like they are gearing more to the soccer mom jogging down the street  than the outdoorsperson.

Walmart around here in Hays, Kansas, because it is usually cheaper and the closest Dick's is in Topeka and thats about a 4 hour drive. I do order alot of stuff from Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas though.

i agree that dicks has more good stuff and walmart has more of a lets stop on the way to the lake idea.  i wish walmart had better selection of reels

i go to dicks when i can

I try to do buisness with the local guys first. And most will break their backs to return the favor. Wal-Mart has 3 stores in this town and I think the same guy picks the stock for all stores. It is the same thing just different package. It's a wonderland if you don't have much, and I don't have that much, myself but lately I felt like there were a few things they could buy from me. It appears like it has gotten worse over the winter. So they may start to stock back up. Acadamy is located about 35 mi. away they have a good selection. Bass pro is about 70. I was looking through the B.A.S.S. awhile back and I think there were 3 or 4 in the top something on the tour from this area and we just keep looseing boat dealers and tackle shops. Could it be all the really good customers are just out of town? Ohhh the shame.

Walmart, but when I get to Dick's, they have some awesome prices on combos. Their lures are a tad pricey

Dicks, have two of them near me....one about 15 min other about 35min away.....sometimes they have the stuff I need then sometimes they are slack, if I want what im lookin for I just get it off the internet.

its not the matter of liking its the matter of buying ;D

Depends on which Dick's store. The one 20 min. form me sux; the one 35 min. away is well stocked and the prices fair. Walmart has clearance sales that are amazing! (rod/reel combos for $15); soft plastics for $.10 a bag; Trilene line for a dollar a spool.)

Other than that, same ol boring stuff and poor variety.

My local tackle shop, 4 minutes away, has double the variety of either store (and except Gander Mt.), but is pricey.

Dick's is 350 miles away and Wal-Mart is 6 miles, though 25 miles is a strictly hunting/fishing store the size of a target store which is called SPORTCO

We don't have Dick's out here in NorthernCalif.  We have Walmart's and Fisherman's Warehouse.  I sure widh there was a BPS or Cabela's close by  :'(

I live in Jax Florida and the Dicks selection is WAY better but over priced a bit. Wal Mart is great for late night purchases but the one on San Jose selection is getting worse.

Wow!  Never thought about the fact that neither Dick's nor Walmart were within 300 miles.  I have no BPS or Cabela's within hours, but lucky enough to have both Walmart(cheaper but less selection) and Dick's(better selection more expensive) close by to home.  Boy do I feel lucky!
